I don't know if 98% is the number here or not, but there are a large portion of hunters out there that wouldn't have found your deer, I spend a lot of time helping others find their deer, and have to agree that tracking skills are important too...

All these ethics gestapo and shot placement gurus would probably attack Fred Bear if they really knew anything about him and the shots Fred would have taken. I remember a couple of years back there were lots of people bashing anyone who took shots over 20yds. Don't seem to see people bashing long shots lately now its "shot placement". Guess who else shot deer in the ass or hams (I read an account and an explanation of how he considered it a lethal shot if you manged to cut the femoral artery), guess who shot at moving critters sometimes. I think Fred didn't intend to hit deer in the rear but he took shots that the ethics gestapo on here would definitely go berserk over if it was anyone but Fred (I doubt very many of them have read his books or books by his hunting buddies). Apparently some of his arrows or some of his buddies wound up in posteriors somehow. Here is a hint, unless your bow is shooting extremely fast a deer can move a heck of a lot before your arrow gets there. Poor shot placement is not always the shooters fault. Paul Brunner used to say "shot placement is random" he was a major proponent of fixed 2 blade coc broadheads. I agree if you had a deer wounded and it only presented a rear end shot, take it. I bet Fred would have too.:

Isn't it funny how history repeats itself! Muzzy's were the best a couple of years ago, then all the fancy expandables started surfacing. As well as the (copies) of the Muzzy, but they are faster, sharper, better built. I would have been scared to mention that I shot Muzzy's a year ago, in fear of being lynched. I am the king of bad shots, still get my deer cuz I don't give up tracking.

2 years ago, I hit a P&Y, tracked it for 2 hours in the drizzles. Had to leave it cuz mountain lion was comin our way. Didin't sleep a wink that night, wondering where the deer was. And not liking the fact that I hit it, and didn't find it. Got up the next morning and found it in 20 minutes. It was dark out when we first started the quest in tracking. With poor flashlights! Easy during the day. Hats off to you Hunlee. Just don't like the 3rd person talking either. But, doesn't mean you should stop for fear of offending me. Just be yourself, it spruces this place up.

Rage are of top quality as there price reflects it but better designed broadheads are available!!!!!!!!!Under real life hunting conditions the hunter needs a head that capable of breaking bone and penatrating beyond!!!!!!!!!Hunlee and morlee skinned,,,,quartered and boned the 10 pointer of hunlee and found the bone to be shatered where the Rage hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!This Rage did good shatering the bone but because of the 2 inch cut made it fail to penatrate beyond!!!!!!!!!100 grain Muzzy 3 blade wood of smashed on through and into the other shoulder and Hunlee has proven this in the past,,,,,,,this alone is good enough reason for hunlee to return to the proven one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

my friend trob here on archery talk shot a nice 8 pt last week and he shot it in the shoulder didnt get too much penetration but got enough to get a lung and this buck was pouring out blood everywhere. And it was a 40 yard shot. The buck ran 100 yards and crashed over. the only thing about muzzys is that some bows dont shoot them well like my bow they like to loop when you shoot.

Rage are good broadheads with the proper shot placement butt under rut hunting conditions were things go down fast the hunter needs a broadhead that is strong and will penatrate through bone!!!!!!!Hunlee has hit deer with Muzzy broad heads in the same area with good penatration!!!!!!!!!!!!This was the 2nd buck that Hunlee called in this morning with the first one being a nice spike,,,,,,,,,,,when Hunlee called to the bigger buckaway from two doe he came in fast and hunlee was on him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Rage are good early season broadheads when you are shooting feeding deer standing still but they are weak when hitting bone!!!!!!!!!!Enen tho Hunlee miss his mark today the buck came home with hunlee,,,,,,,hunlee is standing very tall and is allso very proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:darkbee r: Anyone that has hunted for many years knows that things dont go down like they should sometimes,,,,,those that say differant are liars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my friend trob here on archery talk shot a nice 8 pt last week and he shot it in the shoulder didnt get too much penetration but got enough to get a lung and this buck was pouring out blood everywhere. And it was a 40 yard shot. The buck ran 100 yards and crashed over. the only thing about muzzys is that some bows dont shoot them well like my bow they like to loop when you shoot.

hunlee speak truth! I tuned my brothers X-Force & he shoots Muzzy MX-3's at 324FPS. Someone should go tell him not to shoot through the shoulders though because he does it all the time & has not had to track one 100 yards yet. :ROFLMAO:

Sluggerlee gun hunt to, butt only with 12 ga. slug as IL won't let anyone use rifles. Sluggerlee could use a handgun or muzzyloader, butt since Sluggerlee don't have a muzzyloader or a handgun that fits the rulez, he had to kill one of tomorrows trophys last weekend with hiz shotgun. :D That little six pointer kind of looked like the Michigan Meat Hunter hat logo. Maybe Sluggerlee start a IL chapter of the MMHA!:darkbeer::D
