Below is the latest proposed season changes for 2010-2011. If you would like to comment on the AGFC message board regarding these proposals then simply copy these & add your responses after the proposals & add your name. I will then post your responses on the AGFC board.

1. Allow 65+ year old hunters to participate in the January portion of the statewide youth season.

2. Allow archery hunters to harvest does during a firearms bucks only season.

3. Allow youths to harvest either-sex deer during the January hunt in all zones.

4. Increase the doe archery bag limit in zones 2, 6, 6A, 7, 8, 8A and 10 from up to two does to up to three does.

5. Increase the doe archery bag limit in zones 1 and 1A, from up to two does to up to four does.

6. Eliminate the use of check sheets for checking deer on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs), commission employees and Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) clubs, and instead provide logbooks for biological recording and allow all hunters to check their harvests via the telephone or online.

7. Increase the doe muzzleloader and modern gun bag limit in zones 1 and 1A from up to one to up to two does and allow doe harvesting during the entire muzzleloader season.

8. Increase the deer bag limit from four to five deer with no more than two bucks or up to five does in zone 12 and the WMAs that fall within this zone (which will require raising the statewide seasonal bag limit from four to five).

9. Remove the list of deer zones and areas that may contribute to the four deer bag limit and allow hunters to harvest the full bag limit for an individual deer zone or WMA provided they do not exceed the statewide bag limit of five.

10. Allow holders of a Resident Wildlife Conservation License $10.50 license to harvest their one deer during any deer season with any legal weapon. This change will take effect during the 2011-2012 deer season.

11. Extend the modern gun deer season for deer zone 13 by one week (Nov. 13-Dec. 19) and move the second portion of muzzleloader season to Dec. 29-31.

12. Add Virginia and Missouri to the list of prohibited cervid carcass importation states due to detection of CWD positive animals.

13. Open deer muzzleloader one week later for the 2011-2012 deer season (Oct. 22, 2011).

14. Remove the zone doe quota permit requirement for harvesting a doe on Winona WMA and allow one doe to be harvested during the first five days of muzzleloader or during the first two days of modern gun.

15. Convert the 2 one day muzzleloader permit hunts on Camp Robinson WMA into 1 two day muzzleloader permit hunt.

16. Doe harvested on the Freddie Black Choctaw Island WMA Deer Research Area (east unit) will not be bonus deer and will count towards a hunter’s bag limit.

17. Change the legal buck definition on Freddie Black Choctaw Island WMA Deer Research Area (east unit) and Rick Evans Grandview Prairie WMAs to state that a legal buck must have an inside spread of 15 inches or more or at least one main beam 18 inches or more in length.

18. Increase the bag limit on Moro Big Pine Natural Area WMA to one legal buck or up to five does for permit firearms hunts and the archery season and require a doe to be harvested and checked before a buck can be harvested.

19. Change the legal buck definition on Moro Big Pine Natural Area WMA to state that a legal buck must have an inside spread of 12 inches or more or at least one main beam 15 inches or more in length.

20. Eliminate the lease land permit requirement on Moro Big Pine Natural Area WMA.

21. Remove the WMA doe quota permit requirement for harvesting a doe on Gene Rush WMA and allow one doe to be harvested during the first five days of muzzleloader deer season (Oct. 16-20, 2010).

22. Reduce the number of “doe days” on Petit Jean River WMA (allowing one doe to be harvested only during the first five days of the October muzzleloader deer season – Oct. 16-20, 2010).

23. Reduce the number of modern gun permits for deer for the Bayou Meto WMA hunt from 1000 to 600 permits.

24. Extend archery deer season to Dec. 31 for Wedington WMA.

25. Eliminate the day-use permit requirement for Freddie Black Choctaw Island WMA and Deer Research Area.

26. Eliminate the permit requirement during the youth hunts and allow youths to hunt during the November and January special youth modern gun hunt on Howard County, Lake Greeson, Mike Freeze Wattensaw, Moro Big Pine Natural Area, U of A Pine Tree Experimental Station WDA and Wedington WMAs.

27. Standardize deer dates on Bayou Meto, Camp Robinson SUA, Cut-Off Creek, Cypress Bayou, Dave Donaldson Black River, Dr. Lester Sitzes III Bois d’Arc, Ed Gordon Point Remove, Freddie Black Choctaw Island Deer Research Area East Unit, Gulf Mountain, Harold E. Alexander Spring River, Henry Gray Hurricane Lake, Holland Bottoms, Little Bayou, McIlroy Madison County, Mike Freeze Wattensaw, Moro Big Pine Natural Area, Rex Hancock Black Swamp, St. Francis National Forest, Sheffield Nelson Dagmar, Shirey Bay Rainey Brake, Steve N. Wilson Raft Creek Bottoms, Trusten Holder and Wedington WMAs for the modern gun youth deer permit hunts, muzzleloader deer permit hunts and modern gun deer permit hunts.

28. Add a November modern gun deer youth permit hunt on Dave Donaldson Black River and Shirey Bay Rainey Brake WMAs.

29. Increase the number of deer firearms permits on Mike Freeze Wattensaw (mz 400 to 500/mg 400 to 500), Rex Hancock Black Swamp (mz 200 to 250/mg 200 to 250), Sheffield Nelson Dagmar (mz 200 to 300/mg 200 to 300), U of A Pine Tree Experimental Station WDA (mz 300 to 400/mg 300 to 400), Henry Gray Hurricane Lake (mz 425 to 500/mg 325 to 400).

30. Add a second muzzleloader deer permit hunt on St. Francis National Forest WMA.

31. Add a second modern gun deer permit hunt on U of A Pine Tree Experimental Station WDA.

32. Increase the firearms deer modern gun bag limit on Dr. Lester Sitzes III Bois d’Arc, Henry Gray Hurricane Lake, Mike Freeze Wattensaw, Moro Big Pine Natural Area, Rex Hancock Black Swamp WMAs and U of A Pine Tree Experimental Station WDA.

33. Allow the use of telescopic or magnifying devices for archery hunting.
