Fellow LA whitetail hunters. Lets get an informational thread going for what you are doing and seeing preseason. Has anyone seen any atlers yet on trailcams? Or better yet has anyone seen any deer at all during the day on trailcam (I have not because of the intense heat!) Nor have I seen antlers yet.

I won't be out checking cameras until late September when the temps drop into the low 90's.

Too busy staying in the AC or waiting until 2 hours past sundown to go out and shoot under floodlights...

Why would any LA hunters bother to set out trail cams there when they're all going to be in Illinois in November?

I guess you havent heard about rufus ;) I have many pics of him from last season but he never gave me the chance. This little guy in velvet looks like he'll have some great mass.
This is also my first antler pick of the year. Is anyone else checking cameras in Louisiana yet?

bdoman2

There is great public land everywhere in LA. Just that in WMA it is against the law to put up cameras

I know what you mean. I've been fortunate. I have had only one incident with mine. Someone took a memory card and left the camera, but have gottn a few pics of random people. Even got a pic of a guy with a rifle in a bowhunting only area.

anyone from the northwest part of the boot?

Haywire1014
August 10th, 2011, 11:03 PM
I'm up here in the northwest corner. I hunt Bodcau WMA, and have a 720 acre lease in Webster parish. Only pics I'm getting on our lease is hogs and coons. This drought sucks. Only two bodies of water are covered up with pigs. I can't figure out where the deer are drinking. Plan on scouting on Bodcau soon.

ive killed and seen some good ones killed in bodcau my lease actually is across from bodcau....well a little south towards bellpark. the key to bodcau is mobility.

Haywire1014
August 10th, 2011, 11:59 PM
My dads place(where I grew up)borders Bodcau. I have pretty much hunted, fished, and played on every square yard of it from Sarepta down to the Duck Dam. Mobility is definitely the key as well as patterning other hunters. LOL. Has to be my favorite place on the planet.

I live in the west central part of the state and mostly hunt around the Winnfield area. I have a few pics of a small 8 but nothing that is a wallhanger like those. Oh, yeah...amd nothing since the end of June either.

I guess if we want to be technical about it; I shouldn't have posted here because I'm west of the Mississippi. Sorry for intruding.

I've been in Bodcau while the timber was flooded in my pirogue with a doe and a 100 pound pig. I used the pig for a seat. I really thought I was going to sink. Where do you live bayoubandit? We should do a float trip before the bullets start flying.

unfortunately I have no place to hunt so I haven't put out my camera. Been scouting a few wma's though just don't have much luck. Live in gonzales not far from baton rouge. I've been hunting some friends leases in Mississippi and my uncles property near Opelousas but they have terrible deer management so theres nothing to shoot there either.

I have had a pics of numerous new bucks, but most not worth talking about until this interesting pic showed up. This is the first time I put a camera in this arearea. Could it be rufus from last year?? Or a buck that I caught a shot of in velvet earlier this year?
