I'm done for the day thanks to a wedding. I was fortunate enough to see a 4 point, 40 yards away, right at 7:00! The wind wasnt as bad as I anticipated, but it wasn't good either! I guess the best part of it was it was blowing in the right direction!

No rain in the northtowns. 3 doe. Had one come right down the trail at 20 yards with her fawn, got behind a tree, I drew, then they darted back into the corn. Really jumpy with all this wind. Probably gonna stay in this afternoon. Didn't really see anything until @ 9:00am. And then...

Glad I went out this afternoon even with the wind and rain.

On the walk in I walked up on a doe feeding in the field. Almost got a shot but she busted me when I was trying to get my range finder out of my pocket.

At 5:37 a doe came up and stopped at 19 yards. Wind was blowing hard so i wanted to wait a second and let it calm. The doe looked behind herd and bolted. She saw something she didn't like. I was hoping a buck spooked her but never saw it.

Here's the video.

Bumped another deer on the way out.

Back at it in the morning.

Woke up this AM @ 5:45, ate breakfast, started to get ready to go out, came to my senses and went back to bed...:thumbs_do. Put a stand up later in the AM and headed out for the evening hunt around 4:00 despite the wind/rain. Had this little yearling 8-pt. come out around 5:30. He just showed up one my cams for the first time a couple of days ago. Real nice young buck, hopefully he can make it through a couple more seasons:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b284/WNYBowhunter/IM000077nb.jpg

He bedded out in the field and I climbed down and snuck out without spooking him. I ran into a spike on the way out...we had a staredown @ 40 yds...I got within 20 yds...he just kept staring and finally let out a snort and spooked. He stopped at the edge of the woods and then started following me for a little ways as I walked back to the truck!!!

Hopefully, the weather tomorrow will be a little bit better...

I'm hunting 4J. I was up in my stand about an hour before legal shooting time. First time hunting ever. That hour was an eternity. I was so jumpy and alert to every sound and moving (falling) leaf. Hear some nice nature stuff. An owl hooting for like 10 min on and off. Didn't see a single deer. But I did see a person trying to still hunt. He finally saw me and backed away, but on my way out of the woods i ran into him and we talked for a few minutes. There were 3 other guys with him, plus me hunting a property that could maximum hold 2 bow hunters without totally freaking out the deer. One would be optimal. Not too happy to learn that there were 3 other hunters within 300 ft of me. Could explain the zero deer activity!!! Hoping this is just opening day issue. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to rethink how and where I'm going to hunt this year. Put so much time into my current spot..... arghhhhhhh!!

Had a nice 120 inch 8pt coming up the trail to my stand, then he bedded down 35 yards from me behind a tree, really frustrating. Then 15 minutes before dark he gets up and goes the wrong direction, no shot. He was the only deer I saw. I started on an oak flat in the morning that is usually crawling with deer but with the wind it was empty. Moved in the afternoon outside some thick cover in a swamp with better luck.

Went out this morning and weather was decent, sun with a light to moderate westerly wind. Sat in the stand till noon. Didn't see any activity at my hunting grounds today. On the way out seen a small flock of turkey. Hopefully gonna get out a little later with my brother before he has to go to work and maybe just maybe one of us will get a shot on a deer. So far 2 days and been on stand for 10.5 hours and no deer. Hopefully weather changes will bring the deer to move more often.

well sunday was a better day by far! still nasty, but heres what happened: my buddy who was on his 3rd sit ever as a bowhunter missed a 4 point at 23 yards, i saw nothing but having to slide down the tree like a fireman and scamper 5 yards away and drop my drawers at 8 am probably didnt help. my girlfriend who is still in the hunt for her first deer saw 8, 7 does and a 6 point, she drew on the does but one group picked her offf and the other didnt present a shot. my brother saw 2 does, and then a bobcat! well for the afternoon i went back to the same spot i mentioned earlier with the doe and her twin BB fawns, well it starts pouring rain, and whipping wind again, i think oh well i might as well stay put, well at 5:30 i catch movement to my left, and it is one of the button buck fawns. i grab my bow, and the other fawn walks by, so guess who is next? here comes mamma nerviously right in to 8 yards. i draw, stop her, bring the pin up the leg 1/3 way and let it fly! it smacks her perfect, and she runs off, now this is where the problems start. As i said earlier, it was pouring, and the blood trail quickly washed out, so i got my dad and buddy together and we grid searched. luckily we found her dead in the middle of a field on the other side of the chunk of woods, she went about 200 yards, which i thought was far. anyways we getted her and dragged her out, and got her all hung up, cant kill em from the couch i guess it was worth going out in the crap.

oh and on a side note when my dad was on his way up a bear ran out of the corn field i was hunting right in front of his truck, same bear that chased me there earlier in the year. hopefull i can get an arrow in him. here are some pics, the stelforce phathead was a complete passthrough and exited through the far shoulder blade
