Just recently I finally beat my "archery mentor" in two local 3D shoots. He always shoots really well, so I felt like I accomplished something to ring up a better score; not because I wanted to beat him, but because I respect his abilities. Of course, I've been practicing a lot and he was a little rusty and he says he'll get me next time . . . we'll see !

One of my first shoots as a kid. I went with my brothers to Lake Jacomo in Lee's Summit, MO. I started the shoot with 8 arrows and ended with none.

The first time I ever shot 3D. The owner of the shop and range was a real nice guy. He let me go on the course for nothing.........what a great guy. Oh yes, he also just got a new shipment of arrows, and sales were very slow. What I didn't mention, was that I had just started archery, and was the worst shot you have ever seen. To make a long story short, I had 12 arrows in my quiver when I started. After shooting at 17 targets, I had to go home, I was out of arrows, I missed 12 out of 17 and couldn't find my misses. The nice guy in the shop was very happy to sell me another dozen arrows. What a pal, and that is one shoot I will never forget.
The second most memorable so far, was the first time I shot a 28 target 3D, and hit everyone of them.

My Trophy Taker rope slipped and the rest didn't come all the way up. I never noticed it when I shot. The arrow skipped off the ground and up to the target for an "8". Oh well, better then big ol' fat donut :D . It didn't make or break me since we were not shooting a tournament, but it is a shot that all of us will remember for quite sometime to come.

I went on a compound hiatus for about 4 years. All I shot was a traditional longbow and got pretty good. I was in in tight with a few other trad. guys and we were always comparing scores. I was the youngest of the group and was probably the best shot out of the 3 of us. 9 times out of 10 I'd have the highest score in our group. We went to a local shoot and Ron and John were in the group behind me. All day we'd go up to each other after every shot to see who shot what. Me and John were VERY tight score wise. I think I had him by about 4 points. We get to target 29 of a 30 target shoot and I drill a 8, but then there is audible 'doing'. My string had broken! :mg: Johnny gets really happy like I'd just made his day. He proceeds to drill a 10. I kind of stand around feeling a little ticked. Then the last target is a mountain goat you shoot off of a bit of scafolding. I ask him, "John, can i borrow your bow to shoot this last target?" He says 'sure' and hands it to me. I then proceed to drill the pretiest pinwheel 10 you ever seen. John shoots an 8 or 5. The whole group breaks out laughing and that was the coolest shot/moment I think I ever experienced in a 3D shoot. The shooting, the laughing and the witnesses.

My first "big" shoot it was an indoor shoot in Mass. northeast indoor championship and IBO world qualifier in 2000, this was when I shot in the finger class and there was a 50 yard max. A few years prior I shot local shoots in the area but this one had spectator bleachers, sports show happening, etc. The shooting line was packed with shooters, in the first few targets a guy in the group next to me dry fired his bow  (was so focused on the target he forgot to nock an arrow). I was so nervous for the first 10 targets I dropped 23 points (this was before 11's counted so making up points was out). So I said I would have to 10 practically every target form here on out to stay in the 270's. My nerves finally calmed down, I shot 10's on the next 16 targets, then another 5 (bad yardage guess) and shot 10's on the remaining 3. Wound up with a 272 and (found out at the awards ceremony the next day) first place. I was more amazed that I only dropped 5 points on the remaining 20 targets than anything else. I was exhausted after the shoot for 2 reasons. One was that line had so many shooters it took almost 4 1/2 hours to shoot, but I was mentally tired from judging yardage and concentrating during shooting I just felt drained. But after the shoot, over a few drinks with my buddies as tired as I was I knew I was gonna like the game. :D

My most memorable moment so far is when I shot 10 X's on a 20 target course. The course was set up behind a pro shop and it was a money shoot. Yardage averaged above 30 with only 2 or 3 in the 25-30 range. Was my best day by far.
However, I'm waiting for the day that my two year old(avatar pic) gets big enough to draw back a bow and shoot a tourney with me. That will out shine anything that could happen to me on a 3-D course.

My buddy and me were shooting after school around my back yard which has a pond. I saw a small object on the far side of the pond. He bet me a Pepsi that I couldn't hit it. I nailed it . It was a bottle cap. It was about 40 yards over water. Probably the best shot I will ever make.

I shot with my husband and four other guys and shot from the green stakes (out to 45 yards) and I beat all of them except one and he only beat me by 1 point :D
Hubby has been shooting since he was 12 (now 48) and I just started 1 1/2 years ago.
Oh, yeah. Two shoots later I shot my first robinhood from 44 yards.

Really great stories all of them!!! Salt grass mama, I got my wife into shooting last year, and somehow I must be a better coach than shooter!! so far this year she been at 3 shoots and has 2 1st place trophies and 1 2nd!! although there are alot less women shooting than guys.. she has very respectable scores even for the guys scores!! make me prouder than if I won them!!!! It great having my wife with me at these shoots, only down fall is cost twices as much, but worth every penny!!!

I was shooting in an IBO world quailier in Ripley, Ms. a few years back.
I was shooting very good that day. We had just come out of the woods and there was an elk standing in an open field. I misjudged the yardage and came up a little short. Scored a zero!! That was on target #20. I kept my composure and shot well on the last 10. At the end of the shoot I finished 6th in BHR. I shot a 260 and first place shot a 270. If I had hit the elk anywhere, I would have had a nice plaque to hang on the wall.
That shot broke me for the day!!! I'll never forget that one.....soooo close and yet so far.......

It was the 2 or 3 shoot i had ever been too last year at our local club( it was my first year shooting 3D). I was shooting with a couple of the club members that shoot 3D alot, it was my turn to lead off, so i step up to the stake to judge yardage. I let the arrow fly and it hit the 12 ring dead in the middle, everyone was impressed. They all said they were going to hit my arrow. The target was a 30 point rinehart buck at 52 yards(I only have pins setup to 40 yards),,,,,,Here's a pic of the target when we went to score,,,How many arrows do you see? Ther was 5 of us shooting at it!
