View Full Version : Question for string makers

I shoot a Hoyt Gold Medalist. I put on a new custom made string. The bow shoots great. NOW. On my old string, when you nocked an arrow there was a slight "click" and the arrow would not fall off the serving. On my new string, there is no "click" and the arrow will fall off. BUT, with the new string my groups have tightened up and arrow seems to fly nicer. Does the thickness of the serving affect arrow flight upon release or am I dreaming here. And, what thickness of servings do you makers and shooters prefer? I have had to change my arrow nocking procedure when on the line slightly, but the grups are worth it. Is this a dumb question or what?

How many strands is your new string? your old string? What size nock groove you shoot?

Old string was too fat for the nocks, so they couldn't come off the string properly, thus flying like crap.

New string is too thin - go to smaller nocks.

The old and new string have the same strands, but I can see a difference in serving size. I am going to the archery shop this after for some smaller arrow nocks.
