This spring I gave my brother my bow and infected him with the archery bug. I was hunting a couple hundred yards from him Saturday morning when my cell phone started vibrating. It was my brother calling. He said, "I think I'm done with this bowhunting game." I could hear the distress in his voice so I asked him what happened. Evidently he had a buck on a trail just inside of 30 yards and when he shot his arrow caught a small limb midway between them and deflected well back of where he was aiming. I told him to stay put and I'd head his way in an hour.
Upon arriving at his location we found his arrow with blood and feces on it indicating that the hit was well back. We decided to come back after 1:00 and track the deer towards the river. Since the river was only a few hundred yards away and it appeared the shot went through the guts we thought there was a good chance the deer would bed down near the water. We were correct. It was a proud moment for me to be a part of with my brother and a dandy first bowkill if I do say so myself!
