Im going to buy a generator tomarr and im not sure what kind im going to get yet. But i have around $200-300 and i would like a 4000 watt. What are good brands in that price range? Are colemans good?

I've never seen them that cheap.

A good one will have copper coils in the generator. I believe Coleman's have aluminum. If you over draw a aluminum generator you can mess up the coils. But the aluminum ones are not as expensive.
What do you plan to run with it? The larger the wattage rating the larger the price also.

I was looking at a few a month or 2 ago and I don't remember anywhere near that output for 300 bucks. for 4,000 watts I think it was in the 500+ range for any name brand ones.

I think most in the 300 range were 1000 - 2000 watt ones?

Are you going to be carrying this in your boat? You won't be able to stand the noise. I had a Coleman 5000 watt a few years ago that I ran my 5th Wheel on, noisy thing wouldn't hardly run the microwave and drove everybody crazy. I have since spent a bunch of money for a Honda EU3000 inverter, very quiet, runs the micro and the A/C.

The Coleman I had used a Tecumseh motor which does not have valve sleeves, therefore when it's worn out, it's truly worn out, there is no rebuilding the thing.

I know it's expensive, but for the money you can't beat an inverter unit like the Honda or the Yamaha.

if you are looking a new one, at the price you are wanting to spend. The only ones you will find at that price will be the imports that autozone or checker sells, Cabela's sells one also, I think it is a champion brand but I would go else where. You can try the sales on your local Graigslist.com adds.
