Ok I am very new in the trad world and need a lot of help (what is off the self )mean, also I am shooting a Martin recurve #45lbs at 26" it is very small ( I think it is 48" long) It was the shortest bow in the shop I bought it at. Now I am very in to the shooting and even more in to the hunting with this bow it is awesome. But when I read some of the post I am lost so please help, is 125 gr broad heads to much for aluminum arrows I shoot the XX75 II Super slam I think in easton and they have tunable nocks with 4" feathers and there are three of them. I can hit where I want for the most part 8yards to 20-21 after that it is improving. I just seem to be behind in the lingo and I would like for yawl to give you advise and lingo definitions Thanks LL OUT :D

Shooting off the SHELF means resting the arrow on the horizontal ledge above where you place your hand, instead of using an elevated rest (usually) stuck to the riser). Generally not a good idea, IMHO.

A 125 gr head is about average for aluminum arrows, and shouldn't be any kind of problem. The SS arrows are fine, if you have the correct size (should be numbers like 2016, 2117 etc on them).

I wasn't aware the Martin made any 48" adult bows, does that puppy have a name? BTW, unless custom, adult bows are draw weight rated at 28", not 26".

Sorry to have to add this, but even without knowing anything about you, the bow is probably too short and too heavy to start with. Hitting "where you want" isn't quantifible", meaning we have no idea what your idea of "good" is. The Internet is a lousey means of communication, so while asking questions is a good thing, just be care to give as much info as possible.

Viper1 out.

I shoot at a 4way block target and I hit the little diamonds at will in the 8 to 20 yrd range that is when I focus but if don't stay focused it can get a little hairy and when I shoot at the vitals area I do good from all positions except when I have a tree in my sight on my right, I have the same problem when I shoot sporting clays.
