This was drilled into me this morning . . . by the kitchen floor. If you saw my thread about mattresses you know I was having some back pain. Turns out I must have tweaked my back somehow. Meanwhile, apparently I picked up some sort of little virus. I didn't feel any effect of the virus until today but last night I didn't consume the amount of fluid I normally would 'cause it was a pain in the back to get up and get it!

Well . . I got out of bed this a.m. to get ready to go shoot a field score for our league. I was set on a cup of coffee. I made it to the kitchen . . and then the room start spinning. I sat down in a chair and then the scariest moment occurred . . I started sweating profusely and then the world went black. I was sitting upright looking around and could feel my hand on the cabinet next to me but I couldn't see anything. It was pitch black with my eyes open!

Not sure what happened next . . I distantly heard my wife call my name. She was only 15 or 20 feet away in the bedroom sleeping soundly until I apparently crashed to the floor. When my vision came back slowly I could just barely see her . . . then vision improved . . and eventually the ringing in my ears faded. And then I was ice cold.

6 hours later I was released from the emergency room with a diagnosis of dehydration associated with an unknown viral infection. I had a slightly elevated white blood cell count and I can tell from how I feel today that my body is fighting something.

Let my lesson be yours: Plenty of fluids! Its pretty scary when you know you are concious and looking around but can't see a thing. I also never want to see the frightened look on my wife's face again. Stay hydrated at all times . . especially when excercising or doing yard work this time of year.

I am so glad you are ok!!! There is a nasty stomach bug making the rounds (it's here in lower Delaware). My son and i had it this week.

also want to mention-you can get dehydrated even if you are not sweating!!!! Certain medications/conditions inhibit the sweat response and makes it imperitive that you stay hydrated (I'm taking one of those meds-if I sweat I'm a goner!). You can dehydrate in the winter also.

Here are nifty calculators to figure out how much you should be drinking:

http://www.propelfitnesswater.com/propel_your_workout/hydration_calculator/

http://www.hydracoach.com/calculation/index.html

Hmmmm, I think I will plug in my numbers for the various calculators and see how close they are.

Once again, glad you are ok!!!!

Thanks for the links DG . . . I know I am on the cusp of good hydration on a regular basis so it probably wasn't hard for me to drop under the threshold. I'm going to make a couple big cups of water a day a priority.

I had a virus like that last spring and it took along time to get my sight back to normal. Double vision blurred and for like 3 weeks the room would not stop spinning vomiting forever because of the spinnng room. Never was really diagnoised just some kind of virus.

Happened again last night about 9 pm getting ready for bed room started spinning started sweating and then started vomiting. Feel pretty good this morning but going to try to get a dr. appt. today. Scarey when something happens like that and so fast. Glad your ok.
