hey all, just got a new qad ultra rest pro hd and was installing it today...

i have a couple of questions...

first...attaching it to the bow seems easy enough, but my question here is sould you be checking for level, or just kinda eyeballing it, and also should you place it right up against the shelf or leave it out a bit...cause if you placed it right up with the shelf it would level itself...

second...i left my sight just how it was, i previously shot a wisker...after i installed the new rest and adjusted the timing cord, i took a shot...it ended up about 8-10" down and about 6-8" right...so i adjusted the rest both vertically and horizontally till it shot dead nuts... my question is, i was right by doing the adjusting on the rest and not on the sight, right??? becuase last time i had my bow tuned, the guy just messed witht the sight and dident touch the rest...

third and last...i can not tell if i am having clearance issues...if i look at the bow from the side it looks to the eye like the top feather would hit the top of the bar on the qad rest, the one that prevents if from falling out... if it is hitting what can i do...where it is adjusted now is where i need it to be for my vertical alignment...do you just lower your nocking piont???

you neeed to set your center shot wiht the dropaway up if you had a wb
your center shot was there now you just need to set it for that nock hight and then paper test any time you change any thing on a bow you may have to resight in

my understanding is that you have to set it for true center. Hopefully someone will fill us in I have the same questions.

I put mine against the shelf, as long as it clears everything
did you measure your old centershot from the shelf to the center of the arrow??? If you did just set your new rest to that measurement, walk back tune is different from paper tuning, do a search on walk back tunning there are some good posts on it:D

i did not measure before taking off the old rest...probably should have...dumb me...but i found some walking back methods like you mentioned...my only question is why do you move the sight ring for fixing your left to right (windage) and not the rests windage setting???

The QAD in an awesome rest when they work. If I were replacing a WB with a QAD, I would start over as if the bow never had a rest on it before.

The new QAD's come with two launchers. Try the lowest/deepest one first. If it will work, that would be the one I would use. Normally, with another rest, I would place an arrow on the launcher when it is in the full up position. Then I would adjust the rest height in an effort to line the arrow up so that when I look at it from the side the shaft covers the berger holes. For the most part, this will not work with the QAD.

With the QAD it is important that the launcher lie flat, just barely off of the shelf when in the full down position (at least an eighth of an inch space between the launcher and shelf). This is necessary to eliminate the potential for the launcher to bounce back up. The QAD launcher is designed to lock down if enough room is provided for it to work.

Next, I use any accepted method to determine centershot. I have the lazer sighting tool but there are others. Determine the correct centershot.

I won't go into the placement of the cord and how it's placed on the down-cable but it is absolutely critical that you follow their instructions to the letter--at least for starters. There are excellent detailed instructions on QAD's web site in addition to lots of additional info on the internet.

Last but not least, I put the bow in a vise and place levels on the string and on a nocked arrow. For solo-cam bows, I like to start an eighth inch nock high. For binary cam bows, I start at perpendicular. These are starting positions! Paper tuning will determine where my final rest and nock placement will be.

I have installed four or five of these on different bows and they were all able to function without clearance issues.

There were a few failures where the rest itself had to be replaced but like I said in the beginning, when they work, they're great!
