Hi all,

I have been trying to paper tune my Illusion for a while now with varying results. With some help from a mate, I have gotten rid of the left tear and am now just getting a nock high tear. Depite moving the nocking point up and down we just cant get rid of the NH tear.

It has been suggested that i am getting nock pinch from the setup i'm using (d loop and tru ball rudder). I am going to take off the rudder and put in place a brass nock above the arrow and a soft nock (notted serving) below to try and resolve this.

My question is this: If this problem persists after this operation, and we can't get rid of the NH tear, what should i try next?

Does anyone else out there shoot a 2007 Illusion @ 70# with a WB? If so, are you able to get bullet holes?

Feed back is most welcome :)

Cheers,

James Stone

I just walkback tuned an illusion that I put a new set of strings on. I dont worry so much about papertuning cuz it seems to take me all day. Have you changed the factory string and creep tuned?

Fletching contact?

I was getting a nock high tear with my WB on my Tribute, I ended up moving the nock up 1/8". I only noticed the problem when I was having broadhead flight problems.

Fletching contact?

Possible, but i'm not seeing any discolouration of fletches etc... We moved the rest both ways (same as moving nock?) and either no change or got worse.

Still has factory strinngs and cables (shot in aprox 150 shots to date). Not to sure what creep tuning is?

Keep it coming :)

I use the WB and I'm certain I have read on AT that they cause a high tear.
Not sure because I did not paper tune, I used the walk back method.

When my bow was new, I usually start at ten yards until it is hitting the spot with fletched and bare shafts. I don't really care about how they are sticking in the target, I'm looking for the correct nock height.

Then I start the walk back method.
My neighbor commented on my arrow flight and that started a discussion similar to this one, we did his and he is very happy. I followed the information posted by Nuts&Bolts for walk back, good illustration.

This is the first one I could find doing a search.

Almost forgot...... the new WB has stiffer black fibers in the bottom, no vane contact can occur in this area. Rotate nock to prevent this.

There is no creep tuning an Illusion.....it has a single cam. Do you advance the cam or the idler?

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback. I will be doing some more broadhead tuning next week, so will post results.

Make sure you shoot with cock vein up, any other way will cause vein contact with the rest. Also check that its not hitting the cable gaurd.

Hi All,

Another chapter to this saga.

I spent an afternoon doing some intense paper tuning, mapping all rest movements relative to the tears that resulted.

I have it now shooting knock high tears of about 10mm (not sure what that is in inches). I took the rest up, down, shot different shafts (all fletched)... and still couldn't get rid of it!

The arrow is (depending on where the rest is of course) covering part of the Berger hole in most positions.

????????What is going on?????? HELP!

Is the bow within spec? Whats the brace height and A2A? Do they match the owners manual?

Have you tried advancing or retarding the cam? This is what I ment by creep tuning sorry if I may have stated it wrong in my wording.

make sure your center serving is in good condition,, No stretching or pulling apart,,, this will cause major nock tears,, If you do have some issues , either reserve string or replace with a good replacement string and cable befre trying to tune again,,,

All,

Serving seems to be fine (no obvious breaks/ gaps). I have measured the bow and it is (as far as i can tell) nicely in spec.

I shot it with slick tricks the other day and have them landing where i want (after adjusting my sight), so i'll shoot them till i get some more time to do some more testing. I shot other broadheads at the same time and had these landing low and left most of the time (depending on the head).

The 2 bladers where mainly left, the 3 bladers where low and left...

Thanks for all of the tips... I f anyone else out there shoots a Illusion and has some other ideas for me i'd love to hear them!

Thanks,
