Ok guys im new to archery but have been shooting about a year now. When i first had my bow set up at the shop i bought it at,I had the guy set it at 59lbs on a Mathews Switchback with 50-60 lb limbs. He didnt want to set them all the way torqued down he said. SO i have been shooting about a year now, and tonight i noticed the cups where the limbs are there is a gap. It is uniform on both limbs. But i didnt notice it last year, but i was even greener at archery then than i am now.
I just read a thread here on At at
http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=548190
and the terminalogy scared the carp out of me:confused: my ? is, is there any chance that the limb bolts have backed out in that year of shooting? My string also looks really good, but does it need replacing? My last ? is if i bottom out the bolts will it affect the timing on my switchback? Last thing i wnat to so is screw things up right now. It is shooting sweet and im less than a couple weeks away from some time in the woods. If things need tweekign, is it gonna take another year to get it shooting like it is now?

Yes it's possible ,likely...no. But for peace of mine I have always on any new bow put a dab of paint on each limb bolt on the same spot of both bolts.Usually at a point facing toward the middle of the bow,a quick galnce will tell you if your bolts are turning.

The timing on your bow should have been set with the limb bolts all the way in. If you bottom out your bolts you should be in time and increase your draw weight to max (you will be lucky if it reaches 60lb). The only thing all this should change is you will increase speed which will make you shoot high at all ranges. Make one adjustment to your sight and you are good to go. The thread you were reading don't worry about. If you are good on ATA and cam timing and brace height thats all you need. Limb bolts you just back out equally to change draw weight. Check your serving on your string and cable where it go around the cam and the center roller if they are not frayed they are good. The rubber string suppressors are a good indication of sting stretch or cam timing if they are getting deep wear in them.
Good luck and have a good deer season.

I do the same. Just easy reassurance nothing has moved on me.

Personally, I prefer just to max the bolts out. You might as well get all you can out of the limbs (mine are 60# as well) and you need them maxed to check ATA, BH and cam timing anyway.
If your string looks good and the cable serving is intact, you don't need to replace it. You do need to check your specs and cam timing as they are likely to be out since the string is shot-in (unless you've had it worked on). The cam timing on my Switchback XT is out after 75 or so shots.
You've got plenty of time to get this taken care of and shooting like new before your season begins.
Best of luck.

I emailed Mathews about the 'gaps' at the end of my SB limbs.
Here is my letter:
"Title: limb slippage
Description: My Switchback's [2005] limbs are slipping away from the
limb pocket. One is about 1/8" from total insert location. There is an imprint visible in the synthetic material down inside this gap that shows where the limbs were at one time.
Is this normal? I have been told that the hole in the end of the limb will 'hold' it from slipping any further. I wanted to ask your opinion."
Here is the response:
"Alan,
Firstly I would like to thank you for choosing Mathews; we appreciate your business and support.
The drawing back process forces the limbs into the cups. The purpose of the V Loc system is that the limbs do not touch the end of the cup because that would defeat the purpose of the pinch no tolerance limb system.
Hope this helps my friend."
I'm not sure about it even now. I plan on resetting the limbs firmly back into the pocket and keeping an eye on them.
