After changing the string and buss cable on my bow due to serving seperation, I started sighting everything in again. Everything looked good from 20 and 30 yds. When I got back to 40 and 50 I noticed some vertical seperation of my groups. At 50 yds I was getting 1 or 2 arrows impacting at one level and 3 arrows 4-5 inches lower. I scratched my head for a while, then for no particular reason grabbed the chrono I had recently borrowed from a friend. Taking just three arrows back out to my target, I set up the chrono and fired the first arrow - normal speed, second arrow - 7 feet faster!, third arrow - back to normal speed for my rig. What the....?! Tried it again, making note of which arrow I was shooting. Again, 1 arrow was 7 feet faster. Third try, the same arrow was 7 feet faster. Had to leave for work then, totally frustrated and confused.
Does anybody have a theory on why or how this could occur? Tomorrow I'll be grabbing the entire dozen I have set up like this and chart each arrows speed to see if there are anymore radicals.

that arrow is lighter than the others. Does it have the same weight point? same fletching? If you fletched it did you get glue happy? did you get glue happy wit the insert? what arrows are they ? are they cheap ones that will happen with cheap ones.

Same weight tip, same fletching, although, come to think of it, it does have a small cut out of one of the vanes, about 1/2" long and deep. I don't think that would make it 7 fps faster. Who knows, maybe I'm onto a new, faster vane design. :wink:They may be cheap by some standards, Gold Tip XT Hunters. When I get home I'm going to weight the whole batch, write down the weight for each, and then run them through the chrono numerous times to see what comes up. I may have to "cull the herd".

Ugghhh! do I feel stupid.:embara: I put the arrows on the scale this morning, sure enough, that one arrow had a 100 gr tip on it, the others had 125s.
On a side note, I had a couple arrows that were always less accurate than the others, consistently low left or low right, turn the nock and then it would be high left, etc. Did a quick spin test with the FPs and found I had 2 bent FPs. I guess a summer of whacking chipmunks and rabbits took it's toll on them. I was never one to spin test FPs, but I will now.
