I am relatively new to the game cam thing. Just got one for xmas. Stealthcam I450. Have got a few pictures of deer, several turkey, and one cool pic with two grey foxes.

Want to put some bait out in the spring, and get some bear pictures. My concern is that the bears may destroy the camera. Are my fears warranted, based on your experiences?

Yes. Something about spring bears, they love cams. Make sure they can't get it off the tree, if they do, your cam will be spread all over the woods. Search for some metal boxes guys have made for bears.
Fall bears don't seem to care about cams. Just my experience. My cases are scarred up from bears but they couldn't get them off the tree, I do homebrews with a python lock.

I had 2 ruined by bears last fall. I have had 6 cams in all that have been damaged by bears.

I have t6o wonder.

If you put the cam up high, and used a solar fencer to keep the bear from climbing if that would not keep the bears off of your cam.

He worked on that cam for about 5-7 minutes. Punched out my fresnel, cracked my lens glass, but the cam was still working and taking pics. He could not get that thing off the tree.

I am interested to see some folks who are using the super wide angel fresnel from Snapshotsniper with spring bears. It is going to sit out about .5" from the case, I am thinking the bears are going to pop those off real easy. Glad they are only $7.00. Thinking I will find them in the bear piles.

I would say yes, your fears are warranted. I have had two cameras damaged by bears.

Bears, bears and more bears....

I have found the least resistant cam, the less they mess. If it falls from the tree, they leave it be. I run quite a few cams in bear country and haven't lost one to them,,, yet.....

They will chew and pull on it, til it drops, then they lose interest. Black bears anyway....

The only time I CAN'T get them to eat things is when a friend drives a thousand miles to stick an arrow in one. Then they disappear....

I read somewhere that bears (or deer)do not seem to mind the flash as much if it was from above. they think it is lightening. I thought i could use my climber to attach camera to a large branch coming off the tree. Anyone ever try this?

Take into consideration I'm new at this. But bears/deer or whatever when the cam is up and then pointed down it takes the range away from the cam you are using. So if its over bait then it would work. Over a trail it would have to be pointed "perfect" in order to get movement to trigger the cam since the range has been narrowed.

Thats what I've read in other various spots.

I take a ladder to the woods and place my camera's 10-12 ft. in a tree. I get good pictures and peace of mind. I also bought a bear box and so far no problem.
