I just made the switch to carbons and am very surprised to see that they were not as hard to tune as expected really expected to need quite a bit of tip weight but 100 gr. tip and 100 gr. insert makes VAPER 3000 full length shafts bareshaft AWSOME from my Damon Howatt Hunter 46# pulling it 29". Curious what you all are shooting??? Brian

I'm shooting 3555 Goldtip Trads @29" with 225g up front,from a 45lb recurve.
I'm finding arrow length has "much" more to do with good arrow flight than how much point wheight I have.
I get much the same arrow flight with anything from 125-160g feild points,or 100-160g broadheads.
I stick with the 125's for shooting targets, but I'm quite happy to use 160g broadheads.

As always there is not only one parameter that matters, it's a combination of many: arrow length, spine weight, point weight, fletching, only for the ones related to the arrow. As for the FOC, the recommended value is between 7 and 9% for aluminium arrows, and 11 to 16% for carbon arrows, for memory, if 'L' is the length of the shaft and 'D' is the distance from the centre of the shaft to the Center Of Gravity then the FOC = 100 x D/L. The length of the shaft is to be taken from deepest point of the nock to the insert, do not count the point length in... high FOC values usually give better flight, as the arrow presents less drag area, thus less sensitivity to cross wind.
I shoot 2016 aluminium shafts cut at 29.5", fletched with 4" shield feathers and a point weight of 170 grains (home modded heavy insert+ 100gr point), total weight is 480gr, and FOC is about 12%, this combination works great for me, shooting #45@28 on a samick hawkeye (recurve TD, 62" long). Also tried it on a Great plains bamboo #45@28, the flight was also perfect.
