Is this the dreaded limb twist? I did a search on that, and it seems like you are pretty much screwed it happens. Is this limb twist or something else? Anyway, any help would be great. I am a completel idiot at recurves, I just like to shoot them. This bow was in perfect working order last fall when I put it away after my last fish outing, I got it out a few days ago, and strung it up and it looks like this. I tried restringing it, to no avail. The one that is pretty centered is the top limb, and the really messed up one is the bottom limb. My grandpa bought me this bow 6 years ago about a month before he died, so I would like to save it if I can.

That is a pretty bad twist. Try torquing the limb tip in the opposite direction by hand and see if it will straighten up after a few tries. I've heard of people using heat but that scares me a bit with laminated limbs. If it's a take down you might be able to get new limbs and save the riser/handle you grandfather gave you. Good luck!
Dave
PS: Just my opinion but those limb savers are way, way too far out on the limbs. They should be back around the fade outs. Don't know if that contributed to the twist or not but I would be suspicious.

Alright, thanks for the info. I know I can twist them back, and they stay until I draw the bow, then they twist right back.

I've straightened a few bows by running the limb under hot water for a a few minutes(not scalding hot)and twisting the opposite way. Also,if you left it standing in a corner, those limbs will twist

Alright, then how should I have stored it? Because that is exactlly what I did. :embara: Remember what I said about being a recurve idiot! I can work on my compounds and know the ins and outs of them, but I don't know jack about revurves other than how to mess them up!!

Like this--flat across the limbs.A gun rack works well for hanging bows on

Well, you are here talking, so can you give me any advice on where to find, a good deal on a recurve. Also what would be a good one for a guy who shoots fish with it, and occasionally a 3-D event just for fun. Limited budget!!!!

Rusty, don't give up just yet, you may still be able to salvage it. Sometime it takes a number of tries before it will stick, remember, it took all winter to get like that.

I think I am gonna go run warm water over it, then hang it the way he said, and let it sit for a few days, or weeks, and see what happens.

Rusty, the hot water trick goes as follows.....
Have someone there to help
Run hot (but not REALLY hot) water over it for a couple of minutes
Twist in opposite direction of the current twist, hold for a minute or so
Now have your assistant turn the COLD water on and hold the limb (while still twisting) under the cold water untill limb is cold
It may take a couple of tries but should get all or most out. You may end up with a little twist left that doesn't effect shooting. Then again, you could have a hopeless case thats a wall hanger. What bow is it anywho?

Good advice. I have bought a few bows off the auction site that had twisted limbs. Like stated, hold the twisted limb under hot water for a couple minutes, then worked slowly at twisting the limb in the other direction. As you do this, keep checking it for alignment--some bows took more twisting than others. I never used the 'cold-water' cool down, but just let it cool off naturally. As far as letting it set for awhile, I have shot them within 15-20 minutes after straighting and never had a problem.
Also, be sure to always use a stringer.

If you can't do it yourself, send it to this guy:

He does excellent work.

It is just a PSE Coyote. I know it is not a very well like bow on this site, but like I said, I am not super serious about the recurve stuff, but my grandpa did buy me this bow and I would like to save it if possible. I will try the twisting under hot water thing, when my wife gets home.

That is extremely bad and I'm suprised it does not un-string when you draw it. The hot water trick did not work on my very slightly twisted kodiak magnum limb and neither did the blowdryer trick. I think for twisted limbs it takes along time twisting in the reverse direction of the twist to correct it(memory is memory no matter what). I'd suggest just hanging it on the wall to preserve the memories of grandpa and going to ebay or calling me if you'd like a recurve to shoot,,,,,,,,I was just in your neck of the woods:wink:
I have a tigercat that was a gift from my late uncle that is twisted up worse than that.........It's just eye candy now and I think of him everytime I look at it.
