I have a co-worker that is planning on going on several motorcycle camping trips to national parks over the summer. He is scarred to death that he will have a bear come into his camp. Do you have any advice for keeping bear out of your campsite?

Carry a suitable sidearm, have a bear bag and long rope to hang all things with a scent in at night, don't spill food on the ground, and again I repeat carry suitable firearm protection. Pepper spray is nice if you like to taste spicy for whatever is eating you.

Tie up anything smelly. Food, the stuff you cook in, utensils. Toothpaste is like bear candy. Keep that with your food and other things. Tie it all high in a tree 100 feet or more away from camp.

I disagree with the poster above. Bear spray is a suitable form of protection. Although a gun obviously cant hurt either.
