mine is the RAGE 2 blade. i was a cut on contact man for years( easy to sharpen, good blood trails). when i used the RAGE, wow! i took 4 the first season using and found all w/ in 100 yards. heck of a trail...

I've been down the mech road until I went heavy FOC. I went to Muzzy Phantoms 220 grain with an FOC of 21 %. Since I switched better blood trails and game down sooner. I will never use anything esle.

I use the Spitfire because of the better blood and dead elk sooner -vs- the fixed heads I have used. I looked at the Phantoms last year. I may look at them again based on your success.

With some of the states outlawing the mech heads and some game ranches doing the same I'm surprised the number of mech head shooters. Of course it's still early. Slick Mags for me!

I used to be one of the mechanical nay-sayers. That was back when they deserved the criticism for being weak and unreliable.

There are some really good mechanical heads out there now. I am not at all afraid to shoot them. In fact, the better heads are pretty much superior to any fixed blade head in terms of flight and wounds created. They really do fly like field points even at 300+ fps and make huge holes.

The only reason to shoot a fixed head today IMO is if you are shooting a low poundage bow.

I will not be switching back to fixed heads anytime soon.

I have been trying differnt mechs over the last 4 or 5 years with about the same type results they are fatal if put where they belong!!That said they do not penetrate nearly as well as the fixed heads I used ofer the years .So this was my last year for a while for mechs .I will be shooting fixed until the next "real differnt" mech head comes out not just a differnt name with the same type blades and deployment!

Hunt out west so most of my shots are 30-50 yards. Use NAP 100gr.spitfires and lately, Trophy Ridge 100gr. undertakers which are open on impact and really work well.

Killed with both...

I see no reason at all to shoot a mech head

My blood trails have been just as good with fixed heads as they were with mechanicals. Heck the best blood trail I've ever had was with an Eastman Firstcut XT (silverflame look alike) I couldn't believe it. I don't see myself shooting a mech head anytime soon.

I voted for Mechanicals but I have shot both.
I have shot Rage, Spitfire, and Tekans in Mechanicals
I have shot Eastman, G5 Strikers, Wasp, and Muzzy in Fixed Blades.
I prefer and have killed more animals with the Tekans.
They fly great and open every time, you can still use them hit or miss, and they arent $40 plus tax for a pack of them.

Shot fixed blades for years but started playing around with mechanicals 7-8 years ago when I was convinced that many of the dsign bugs had been worked out. Have been switching back and forth between fixed and mechanicals even since....... never had an issue with either. Both do the job if you put the arrow in the right spot. Both are apt to fail if you put them in the wrong spot. I have made marginal (read that as a bad shot on my part) shots where I thought the fixed blade saved my butt ...... shoulders, sharp quartering etc. I have also made marginal/bad shots where I thought a big mechanical saved my butt .... shots a bit back or low. After 70-80 whitetails, IMHO this whole issue of fixed vs. mechanicals is blown way out of proportion.

I actually use both. I have both in the quiver in case I have a shot over 35 yards.

We've all had those days when they wouldn't come in close enough so now I practice out to 70, 60 & 50 yards a lot with 50 being my max kill shot. But like many bow hunters on AT I have a dependable group from 50 yards.

I shoot both
fixed G5 montecs & strikers , was shooting nap thunderheads , muzzy 3 BL

mech. Tekan G5 , elcheapo eastman 1st strikes

I have killed alot of game with all of these heads & have only ever lost but 1 deer in my life & it was not a bow shot deer.

theres nothing wrong with mech. BH IMO you just have to have the right set up to shoot them effectively, & shoot one that your KE will open.

but inside of 30 yds. Im sticking with my fixed blades , just more full proof.

"So did I" with 70# and 460gr arrow but the deer was a 130# feild dressed soft skined doe. Not a +200# buck I have posted pics of both on here befor from this year. Its all relative in the deers size and what a hunter wants ,or how big and tuff the deer is they hunt .On a side note the buck pic I have posted on here was simply not a passthrough the arrow was sticking out of the deer in the pic.
