I am looking into getting a press and am wanting to start doing all my own tuning. How hard is it to put on strings and to do any other tuning for that matter? How would you suggest learning?
If you plan on staying with archery, it would be a good thing to get a press and start learning. Honestly, I've get my info from various websites and put it to use on my own bows. I built my first press, then bought one. You have to start somewhere.
I think putting strings is fairly easy. It just takes time and patients at first. After you do it once its pretty easy to get an understand of the bow and what your doing. When I started doing it I didnt have a clue what I was doing so I bought a few videos. Not sure what kind of bow you have but if you have a Hoyt you might want to contact Hoyt Thompson here on AT. He has a great video on how to install strings. I purchased it off of him and I'm glad I did. He explains everything very well and makes it pretty easy to learn. As for all the tuning methods I went to Grivtech.com and purchased his tuning dvd and learned all the tuning methods from it.
changing strings. take pictures of the cams n strings and also do a drawing or write stuff down as to how they go, it will make it alot easier for sure, NOT hard at all just do one string at a time to start and with your own drawings or pics it shouldnt be a problem at all
another thing you can do instead of taking pictures, is mark your posts with a permanant marker before you remove the string. still, only change one string at a time
