Hi Fita stars!
Friday night I shot half a round, just the 90 and 70 m parts...both 6 ends of 6 arrows.
It was a lot of arrows for one night, especially after warming up!
almost 100 arrows!
First time with a full scored round.
90M-276
70m-305
How do you practice for the FITA?
Thanks-
PB

Brian, I practice 1/2 FITA by shootin 18 arrows at each distance (70,60,50,30) after hearing Dave Cousins talk about doing that here on AT almost 2 years ago. When I am pressed for time I usually skip the 30m arrows as they tend to be least helpful anyway.

Do you guys shoot regular target faces all the time, or do you use those replacement patches on your target? I thought maybe I would buy some patches and stick them on some cardboard. Right now I am using a 40cm face on a PBB portabutt and moving it around for distances.
PB -I like seeing your progress since this is my first year doing this. Keep us posted.

That's what I do PB. Today I shot 50 and 70m games then moved back to 82m (as far as I can get) and shot 4 ends just to see how fly out there.
I shoot at a 40cm single spot for 30m and 50m. You just score double lines for each lower point. For instance, the yellow on a 40cm is the 10 ring on an 80cm target. The red is the 9, etc.....
I do the same for 70m and 90m with a 60cm target. The actual 122cm is a bit bigger than doubling a 60cm but it keeps you honest on those liners, LOL!
I find it easier to get used 40cm and 60cm targets that aren't too blown out.
Nice shooting by the way too!
Cheers,
Pete

My feeling is you get the best practice at 90m. Small form errors get magnified and one can learn the most shooting at this distance. 90m is where most of the points are lost on a fita and where the most gains are possible with practice.
It's also good to shoot 50m as that's where the target size changes and one can loose points there as well. Many top archers never bother practicing at 30m. I do a little but not a lot as I find if I'm doing well at 90m and 50m then 30m is easy.
Recurve archers may feel differently, but I think many compounders will agree with this.
