Hey guys i was hunting a lease in NY and have video of a turkey i Named " Rodman" becuase his beard looks like the bleach blonde color of dennis rodman back in the day. He is a mature gobbler full fan, but his beard is a thick 3-4" fuzz all blonde. I was shocked. I want to put an arrow in him if i get a chance. Would be a very unique bird thats for sure.
you think he is real old, or getting his beard died at the the local barber shop???
Cool artical, but this beard is like bleach blonde. Should i shoot him just to take him out of the flock...sounds like some sort of disease. Interesting.
Hmmm guess ill hvae to make that decision when it comes..if it comes
saw a gray wild turkey with a white beard few years back.one thing about the woods no telling what you will see next. still hoping for bigfoot under my stand.
I would say it was burned off this winter from dragging in the ice and snow.Sorta like how freezer burn meat turns white.Or he has a bad case of beard rot(mites that get in there)
"Beard rot" is actually lack of melatin in a birds diet. It can make the beard brittle which in some cases can make it fall off. Beard rot is not from little bugs. When lack of melatin occurs the beard can be colored blonde. I have seen birds with multiple color bands in their beards.
i've killed a tom with beard rot. it had a 3" blonde beard and 1 3/4" spurs.
