Who's got one or even a different Badlands hunting pack? I've always used junky, cheap packs and I've had enough. The main two things I've looking for are lots (and I mean lots) of pockets and obviously quality construction. I get so sick and tired of having 5 or 6 items in each pocket getting all tangled up and dropping one thing trying to get another, etc. I guess the last thing is comfort. I used to always hunt out of climbers and just hung my pack on the climber, but over the last several years I have been using small, lightweight loc-ons carried way back into places on public land and would like to wear the pack against my body and somehow strap the small loc-on to the pack instead. Any expertise on that aspect would be great too.
Not real familiar with the whitetail series pack, if I'm not mistaken they are kind of a suped up fanny pack. If I'm correct, I don't know how well a small lock on would strap to that and be comfortable. I have a badlands superday that I use here out west, probably the smallest one would want to use out here, but it sounds like it might be perfect for what you are intending to use it for. Plenty of room, pockets, etc., some strong straps on the back that would be perfect for hauling your stand around. Very well constructed, very comfortable. When I hunt in the midwest, I just stick with the cheapo fanny packs, either going to pre-set stands or climbing. Hope this helps.
Yeah, I kinda had my heart set on a superday pack, until my hunting partner pointed out the whitetail hybrid ,which has more pockets, so I'm considering both. Neither is a fanny type pack like some of the ones you're thinking about though.
I have a Badlands 2200, an older model 2800 and and older model superday....the superday is a nice pack and if your lookin for something to pack stuff with but in a smaller size the Superday is the deal....the Whitetail hybrid is more of a organizer pack but not sure how its gonna do on hauling stuff...i do have plans to get one of the Whitetail Hybrids for deer hunting this comming year when i can get sell the 2800 and the superday
I have this Whitetail Hybrid that you speak of. I am what you call a very impatient person and won't be using it until September but I had to have one as soon as they came out. So every now and then I pull it out of the box from the closet just to look at it and every time I do, I find more pockets. This pack is amazing! And Badlands is a top notch company. Just hope I can remember I can put where in which pocket! Get one, you won't regret it.
Ok, the magnetic closure system is amazing! I also have the Badlands Bino Harness with the magnetic system and it is also a must have!
Back to the Hybrid, there is only one of the magnetic closures (it is one of the main compartments up front).
the rest are all zipper compartments, give me a minute and I will count them all for you guys......there is 1 pocket on each strap that goes around your waist ... 2 so far.....
there are 2 pockets on each side ... 6 so far...
there is 1 on the front that can be accessed through the magnet opening or the zipper opening behind it... 7 so far...8 if you use the manet part and zipper part separate.(there is a zipper separating them when you open it)
and then you have the main compartment which is huge!... 8 so far...
now for the inner compartments...
the side pockets have 6 pocket inside of them for 12 more... so we are at 20....
the first front pocket has 7 pockets on the inside... 27 and counting...
the main compartment has 3 LARGE internal pockets...so that brings us to...
literally 4 minutes later
30 POCKETS....
and let me say, the zippers on this pack are top notch and super quiet and you can tell this thing is built to last a lifetime!
Just found 2 more pockets!
32 POCKETS!
and a water hydration system!
I feel like I should have written a review for this thing!
anyways, I'll be glad to answer any questions about it, but please remember, this is only 1 man's opinion!
good luck, hope you enjoy yours!
forgot to add, it also has several snap buckles to cinch down the pockets that you aren't using so it won't be as bulky, and it is very adjustable to fit virtually anyone very comfortably.
wow thats a lot...you already answered my other question and that was if it came made for a hydration system...this WILL be my next pack....jsut have to move a older 2800 and an older superday if anyone is interested let me know
I don't have any experience with the Whitetail pack or Badlands in general, but I hear nothing but good things. As far a packing in a stand/sticks, I'm looking into this one by Blacks Creek:
They make a bunch of different packs and little pouch organizers that attach to this rig. I'm hoping I can attach a set of LW climbing sticks to this pack since I'm planning on using the Treesaddle more this year and then attach a pack over top of the sticks to keep them from hitting the brush and stuff. They make an attachment bag specifically for attaching a treestand and another bag for toting a ground blind along with an attachable day pack, fanny pack, and meat pack.
This site shows some of the accessories that attach to the basic frame, but I wish I could find more information on the attachable day pack as far as pockets go:
I like the idea of a modular pack that I can turn into a large or small pack if I choose. Black Creek seems to get pretty good reviews as well and the prices aren't too bad.
HOLY COW! Yes, I just found them...2 more magnetic pockets with 3 inner pockets on each side.
40 POCKETS and obviously still counting! Man this pack has an @**load of pockets
:whoo:
I've got the pack as well and even though it has a ton of pockets, I'm not sold on the two side magnet pockets. In my opinion these are pretty much worthless if you put anything of any size in them at all. I do like the big one in the center of the pack. I have put my LW climber and hang on on this pack and it works great. It also carries my AM 32 quite nicely as well!!
Get a 2200 Badlands and you can elk hunt, whitetail hunt, turkey hunt,; juts about any type of hunting. It has the ability to carry treesyands, ground blinds, meat, etc. Lifetime warranty. Pricey but ergonomically designed for all day comfort.
One thing I can tell you about badlands packs is that they have the BEST customer service EVER. Each pack has a lifetime warranty. They don't care where you got it from, what condition it is in, if you drove over it, lit it on fire, stole it from your buddy or found it in a dumpster, they will simply give you a new one. Also, my boyfriend got the monster fanny and it was absolutely massive (just too big for a hunting pack) so I called up and asked if he could switch packs. They didn't even ask where he got it, they said sure pick any pack you want.
It is nice to come across a company that really, truly cares about their customers.
Here is a post of a review I did on the Whitetail - http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=836531&highlight=Badlands+Whitetail
I have got to disagree with you HCH on the 2200, as far as I am concerned the 2200 is the 3rd best pack that Badlands makes that is suitable as a day pack for out West. I have owned the 2200 [sold it], the Superday [still own]and now I own the Whitetail also. But for what Whitetailchaser is looking for the Whitetail pack is perfect. Chaser if you have any questions on the Whitetail pack you can PM me and I will try to help you.
