I dont have enough posts to give you a link yet, but look up Tred-Not deerfly patches. They work well for me. There are so many here in NH during the late summer, that you could go mad being in the woods without some protection.
oh, thanks, yeah they dont like engine noises cuz i was trimmin some brush down in the woods after lunch and they wernt bothering me, but its not like i can be runnin a engine while im out hunting in october
even tho they're obviously not related to the mayflies associated with fly fishing. I have found that they are attracted to motion. If you are able to sit/stand still - no swatting, etc., most of them leave.
You arent going to believe this but a Bounce Dryer Sheet will keep deer flies away, just put a sheet under your hat and the deer flies wont bother you.
