What draw weight ladies

Hey Ladies I see your section of the forum is not very active so I hope I get a few responses. I am curious what draw weight do you shoot and what did you start with? I just got my girlfriend a bow, well its still on the way her birthday is on the 6th hopefully it will be here by then. The one thing I am a little worried about is the bow I got is 40-50# I know she will be able to shoot high weight eventually but I am just worried she might loose interest in the sport from the weight being too much. What do you gals think? She is about 5'8 to 5'9 weights 125

I shoot about 45 pounds and it seems that is what I have always shot. Started out with that and am still there. No matter how much I shoot I never go up. I am comfortable with that weight and don't see a need to shoot anymore.

Most ladies shoot in that range so I think she will be fine.

i am 5'8 and 170lbs(working on that lol) but iv been raised with 2 brothers and a hell of a basketball coach for a dad....i draw 53# on my new vulcan and am wanting to get up to 60# by this summer. that is where i will stay.

My first bow was a 40 pounder and I quickly maxed it out in one season. Then my next bow was a 50# @ 24". I'm a petite thing @ 5'2" & 118 lbs. She should be able to do it.

I actually started off at 30# but now I am shooting 48#. I quickly maxed out my first bow and the one I have now goes to 60#. I would like to be to 52# by next summer..

That's good to hear! It seems most of you shoot at 40 or above so she should be able to handle it just fine.

I just shoot target archery and love to shoot lots of arrows at a time. I started at 36# and now am happy to shoot 40#. If I go more than that I get too tired and a little sloppy toward the end!

i would have to think it depends where you stick the deer...and i dont know how to answer your question but i have a hoyt vtec and i shot my buck through one shoulder and out the other with it set at 53lbs and at about 17 yards.

Many factors for a pass through... but I have witnessed a 50# hoyt rintec pass through and stick half the arrow shaft into the ground.

There would be a lot of factors for that, like what broadhead and arrow weight, a single blade broadhead would give the most penetration and increase your chances. Also I think a lot of states have a 40 pound minimal to deer hunt, not sure on that though.

I started out shootin in up 20# (prearchery shoulder injury to drawing arm.) But now yrs later I can pull 50# but chose to only pull 41#. State weight require ment here is 40#. And I know with shot placement my bow and arrow selection will take em down and get a passthrough too...

I started at about 40 too, I shoot 52 now, but when I get my passion, Ill be ordering in the 55# max option and just max it out.

As far as passthru- I was shooting my Mathews BlackMax at 46# with a 100gr muzzy and got 2 passthrus at 30 yards. Not sure with my Vulcan as I have been being too picky lately grr.

I started shooting at about 35. That was hard for me at first. Once i got my muscles built up i moved right up. I now shoot 58 LB when hunting. If she cant pull it back at first, make her try everday and those muscles will show up QUICK.. we had a kid in our shop who got a 50lb bow and could not draw it back. it took him 3 days to draw it back and shoot. He has no problems now and has even moved up in weight.

I started at 35lbs & am maxed out on my current bow at 52lbs. I'm hoping to get a new bow next year with the 50-60lb range. I'd like to get up to 55lbs - probably no more because when the weather gets cold here in MN and I layer on the clothes, it's easier to pull back a little bit less weight and still be comfortable. The 40-50# is probably pretty popular, but you are right in not want something too heavy that she can't pull back and get frustrated and not enjoy herself. If it is too heavy, maybe you can exchange it? Good luck!

My arrow passed through on my buck that I got 4 weeks ago and it is at 45#.

I started off at 35# and now am at 45#. I upped it to 50# this summer to get ready for all the extra layers this winter so it will be easier to pull back when I brought it back down to 45#. Seems to have worked well.

My daughter just shoot her first Doe this year she is 20 an has shoot since she was 5 and she shoots a Hoyt powerhawk-42lbs , in a treestand 15 feet up an she made a perfect shot, at 15 yards away, with beman arrows with a thunderhead braodhead, an shot clear through the deer, an we found her only 25 feet away,, I think that bowhunting is not just about how many pounds you shoot but your ethics and your own ablity to make a great shot!!! and have fun! an enjoy the nature. But i am very proud...So hope your wife has fun..

My hoyt is maxed out at 47# and my APA is set at 51#. But because of elbow injury,,,i am shooting the hoyt still at 47#.

My daughter has a 40 - 50 lb bow. For indoors it is backed out all the way (around 38) and for hunting we turn in up to around 45.
