Well if it was down to the summer pool I could have walked out there and got him where he crossed cause it wouldnt have been much over knee deep but with the rain we've had in the past couple of weeks she's up and rolling now. I'd be willing to bet that deer isnt even in the county anymore. Plus this river is deep & swift, not alot of shallow spots in it.

I understand...and that sucks! We've had a ton of rain too. And if the river your talking about is anything like the one I'm around....it would be to dangerous to even attempt it until it came back down. But you might be surprised at how far it drifted. I found one a few years ago under much different circumstances that was hung up in a downed tree.

Grunt in a little 8pt awhile later and then just at dark I Roar'd & Snort Wheezed and a big, wide 8pt comes crashing in. I stopped him at 20yds and hammered him, watched the LumeNok blow right through him on the edge of the shoulder and bury in the ground, deer runs maybe 30yds, tips over, gets back up and decides his best line of escape is to swim the river that's about 5yds away from him...So I set in the stand and watch him hit the river, make it about half way out and roll over dead as a hammer and off he floats. We've had alot of rain lately and the river is deep & swift and my big 8pt is history, thing looked like he had a Johnson Outboard straped to his butt. No shallow spots, no way to get to him since he's in the middle of the river. As much as I hate it I guess I lost that one. I took my light and walked down the river bank for a long ways but he was long gone by that point. If there's one positive thing, the Grim Reapers left a massive blood trail and I'm really surprised he got back up after the initial 30yd sprint. I guess you win some & you lose some.
J-Daddy I can only imagine the sick feeling you had to have watching that!.

Kahkon, another thank you. Sometimes peoples can get too caught up with emotions on forums, it can happen to really good people. I believe we really are exited with our Athens positions and the great equipment and maybe get a little carried away at times. Rodney does run a great ship and won't let us stray out of bounds. As maxx532 said, join us over at the Athens site.

A guy here intown that I know lost one the same way in the same river last year...He said he didnt get a pass through and his arrow had a LumeNok on it and he could see the nock under the water floating down the river out of sight...Back in the spring I found a dead buck in the same river at exactly the same spot where mine jumped while I was turkey hunting. If a deer gets in this river in bad shape he's as good as gone...It's notta huge river but it's deep & swift, not many riffles or shallow spots in it at all to actualy find a deer, they just keep going unless they hang under a log under the water which is what happened to the deer I found back in the spring.

Anyone else have trouble getting motivated to go when it is 75 degrees. I got up this morning and the wind was howling and it was 55 degrees with a high of 75 today. I just went back to bed. I got all next week to hunt and a trip to KS to look forward to so maybe that is why but this weather is killing my motivation.

I hear ya, I'm in the same boat. Over the past couple of weeks I've barely seen any true rut activity around here and the warm weather doesnt help motivate me any either. I got buddies from all over the country calling & texting me asking if I'm in a tree and I tell them no...I'm just not feeling it much right now for some reason.

I know what you mean......I don't want to even keep track of how many hours I have logged in a tree the last 7 days. The weather has been fine here just NO deer. I saw on the news yesterday they said this area had a 40 year low acorn crop. In 20 years of bowhunting I haven't seen it like this. The deer are nowhere in the woods. Just bedding and feeding in honeysuckle thickets or in fields. I have seen like 7 deer from my treestand the WHOLE season here in my home county and I didn't even see one in October or September! I did end up shooting a small 7 pointer last night. He is a dink but, I plan on hunting OH so it was going to be my last set in KY till mid Dec.

Man it sounds like KY has went downhill the past few years..I keep intouch with a few old buddies down there weekly that I used to bowhunt with when I lived there and all of them have said the same stuff "It freakin SUCKS!!!"
None of them are seeing deer, muchless big deer, one of my buddies said he's seen fewer deer in the past 2 years than since the early 80's when you hardly ever even saw a deer at all. He food plots the crap out of his place and said he walked around the plots last weekend and found 1 little doe track and that was it. I know 2 guys down there that have shot does to eat and that's it this year.

Yeah it has gone down hill. My friend has a farm in Central KY that has deer crawling all over it. I go down there on doe patrol and have seen plenty of deer there this year and killed one slick

    What a day

Day started by having a 140-150 class 10 point walk accross the road in front me. Get to my stand only to find that it was stolen! Locks and all. See not much at all even though the farm we are at is crawling with deer. Hunting partners arrive late, see deer all day, and fellow staffer John (designed to hunt) ends up shooting a nice 8 point right where I told him to go! I am happy as hell for John, but still steamed my climbing sticks and my lock on stand were stolen. Here' s to you John!
oh well, got a week left!

Man, with all the stands we've had stolen, I think rodney should work on a deal with millenium or summit for us!

All joking aside, sorry to hear that, I had the same thing happen to me last weekend, it's really sad that people can be such low lifes.

It's not too bad. I hunt and live in central Ky and we have been on big deer all year. On the three farms that I hunt, they have harvested a 172", 158", 148", 142" and had a kid take a 137" with a crossbow. I've also seen plenty of big deer this week on their feet. Hope to get my crack at one this week.

Rodney, I'll second this, with the police work, under armour, phase 2 and hunting there should be plenty of time left in the day to get us some stands LOL.

Stolen stands and cameras, seems to be a problem, no matter where you live. Maybe what we need is theft insurance. lol.

Probably a light weight climber is the way to go, on public land. Keep it with you.

I received my 34 on friday, went down to the pro shop an got it set up,shot a few arrows, an then there was a line to shoot it,everybody in the shop wanted to pull it back, that made me a little nervous, but it got nothing but good reviews everbody liked the wall, an how quiet it was.
I got to meet another field staff shooter who is waiting for his bow,let him shoot mine an now he can't wait to get his. GREAT BOW ATHENS

I guess not only do we have to put camera's to watch Deer, but putting them up to watch who steals them stands would be great and the look on thier faces when they get a visit from the local police would be priceless to see.

I have a question. I have seen several threads about companies offering contingency programs and a couple of the company that I am involved with offer them. But what are they exactly? I have shot 3d for a while but this is the first year that I will be shooting indoor leagues. Thanks
