How does draw length effect arrow speed?

I am shooting a Parker Raptor (now known as the Red Hawk). IBO rating is 310 at 30 inches. I shoot this bow at 31 inches. Does this increased DL also increase the bow's ability to shoot an arrow faster than a 30 in draw?

I have been told that if you shoot less DL, you will shoot slower. Just wondering if the opposite was true.

Yes the opposite is true. The longer the DL, the faster the arrow, the shorter the DL, the slower the arrow (out of the same bow, same arrow).

...and a good, general, metric to use is that you will gain or lose 8 to 12 fps for every inch of draw length gained or lost.

Your bow is probably 10 fps faster than the IBO specs with the extra draw length that you enjoy. Of course, your arrow very likely weighs more than five grains per pound (350 grains for 70 lb draw weight) - so you will be shooting slower than IBO anyway.

    +/- 1" DL = +/- 10 FPS. So now you're up to 320 FPS..
    09 PSE OMEN 60lbs, 28"DL+ 380grain = 325FPS

Yes, my arrows are much heaver than IBO. The arrows weigh app: 430 grains.
430 grains at 31 in should be faster than 430 grains at 30 in.

    Thanks!
