The "pre-rut" is starting, also known as the chase phase. This will last for about a week and then the "rut" will occur. Either way, the time to be in the woods is now...

I would say by this weekend things should be getting warmed up pretty good. One hot doe is all its gonna take.

    Westchester NY heating up

I saw some good chasing this week-end too, but the does are still skiddish. I got this little 10 ptr (w/ a broken tine), but saw a MONSTER chasing like mad 30 mins before dark on Sunday. I am hoping to see him again... at bow range.

I saw serious chasing on October 26 by two bucks - one mature and one younger buck. Does did not want anything to do with it. Seeing lots of dead bucks on I-90. Girlfriend took one out Sunday night at 70 mph near exit 43.

He's in westchester so I am assuming he can get additional either sex tags. I know in 8C (Rochester city/Monroe County) that if you bring in a deer head (doe usually) with a filled tag, the DEC will reissue you an either-sex. I'm not sure if that second tag is good statewide or just in 8C...but I've seen it done before with my own eyes.

Getting your own slice of land to hunt there, now that's a different issue.

In Westchester it is a bow only zone. You have your either or tag and then you can use your regular buck tag.Unlimited goes too.Gotta love it
