Yep--they drop them just like whitetails, mulies, and moose--the Boy Scouts used to make considerable coin picking up sheds at the winter range in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Here's a link to the topic: http://www.jacksonholenet.com/events...tion_event.php

We went to Yellowstone in June a couple of years ago. We saw several bulls in full velvet. It was pretty great to see.

I am a huge whitetail shed hunter. I think it would be pretty cool to shed hunt for elk antlers.

I was thinking of trying some shed hunting this year. What time of the year do they shed. I am in New Mexico if that makes any difference.

they will drop them later the farther south you go but they should be starting to drop anytime in NMx if they are anything like whitetails

They drop much later than whitetails, March/April is more like it.

We went two years ago in June and saw the same thing. Plus, they just stand by the side of the road and let you take pictures of them all day.

I have to admit that is one of my pet peeves. When people call antlers HORNS. Especially when they do it on TV. The reason they're not called horns is because they shed them.

Being that I'm Canadian I wonder if Southerners would mind if I called them Yanks? Your all American to me. See the difference....
