1st the speed is really not a factor
2nd personal opinion on what you like to use.
I been shooting feathers for the last few years for various reasons. First they are lighter and I gain around 8 to 10 fps. Second they are more forgiving---I can loose half a feather and it still flys straight. They can be water proofed(many products on the market to do this). Disadvantages------they tend to make more noise. If not treated they will matt down in wet weather. Vanes tend to be more durable, don't matt down in wet weather. Disadvantages heavier, makes the arrow slower. Tear one or get a hole in one it won't fly the same needs to be refleched right away. Bottom line personal choice.
The ONLY disadvantage that feathers have is weather, but they can be waterproofed simply and cheaply. That means there aren't any REAL disadvantages.
Less weight, higher FOC, more forgiving of all contact, more stability per inch, are quieter than most vanes (until they're tattered anyway), more durable in some ways and look better, too.
Basically, vanes are just cheap reproductions of feathers. :darkbeer: Kind of like comparing leather to vinyl "pleather". ukey:
