Props to the PGC this year... people are already getting their permits, last year nobody got their permits before Sept... hard to make hunting plans for early zones

5c is extremely overpopulated, especially delaware county and chester county. The plus side of that is Chester county is 5 minutes away.

    oh believe me...i know

i grew up in the heart of 5C...and there are a ton of deer. i know a ton of hunters in that area that get their doe tags and do most of their hunting in mountains of PA.

because there is very little amount of public land hunting and private ground is really hard to come by.

There certainly aren't as many deer as 10 years ago. Luckily there is enough private property to support pockets of deer. In my opinion, the souhteast part of the state is maybe 6-8 years from being like the rest of PA. It is obvious that is what the PGC is shooting for by selling an additional 6,000 tags. I still see plenty of deer, but a far cry from just a few years ago.

I grew up on the southern end and still have a couple hundred acres I have access to. The problem is the farmer that owns the Farm i hunt in 5b wants me to get tags for here. I still try and make sure to get a 5c tag but I definitely try and take care of the farmer here in 5b that I mainly hunt.

I believe if you look you will find the number of tags is down. Dmap got capped at last years Dmap numbers and those numbers are part of the overall anterless number. 5c is overpopulated, period. That measn there are more deer there than the habitat can sustain. With development gone are the days that the area can hold and sustain the numbers of the late 70's and 80's. Quite frankly if you want population levels to stay where they are at buy ground and put it in clean and green so it cannot be developed. As the amount of habitat shrinks so will the sustainable population levels.

    2G is sold out.....after 3 days!!!! Man.

My 3A tag has already been awarded. I don't think I'm going to have any problem getting 3 tags in 5C when the 1st round of unsold tags are accepted. I picked one up in the Montgomery County courthouse last year on 12/8.

Got my first round 5b tag. Would be nice to get at least one more and then load up on 5c when unlimited OTC starts.

I had 4 tags for 5c last year and did not even use 1 of them. primarily because I hunt public land and by the time rifle season rolls around the deer get pushed out, you can sit for days and not have 1 deer come in for a blasting. way to much posted land protecting them in 5c. it is quite a challange at times.

Talk to landowners. Most of them are not morally opposed to hunting. If you have a 500k thoroughbred stud in your pasture are you going to let the first redneck that comes up asking permission hunt your ground with not getting to know a bit about them first? Try stopping by in the off season and giving them a hand clearing brush, repairing fences, hanging posted signs, purchase hunter's insurance to cover any incidental that could happen to their livestock. I know that if I have a blood line with good genetics on livestock I am not going to let a complete stranger hunt my property near my livestock. If they are willing to invest the time for me to egt to know them a bit better then yeah I would feel more comfortable granting them access to my property for hunting purposes.

I was seeing deer in 5c all season long and even into late muzzleloader, all on public ground in 5c

I was just wondering, if someone could explain something to me. In the WMU section you put your area you want to hunt right? Then the second spot you put another area and so on? I just want to make sure I filled mine out right. In NY you pay $10 pick a area and hope for the best. If you pick like 9X and you got a no then you don't get another chance for a doe tag. But if you get 9X then you would more than likely get your second doe tag as well. With the two being different I'm just confused on how its suppose to work here in PA. Also because I sent in my app for my first doe tag. When would I be able to apply for another doe tag?

    3 choices

You put in the 3 choices so if the first one is sold out, you get your second choice. If both first and second choices sold out, you get your 3rd choice. With the old system, if you sent in and it was sold out, it came back to you aand you had to go thru the mailing all over again. I heard from a fellow bowhunter who only put in a first choice, that somebody from the treasurer's office called him asking if he had a second choice since his first one was sold out. Not required but nice. You can check on your application status on the PGC website. Go to the section to purchase your license and the last option in that section will let you see if you got your tag.
