I was just in a discussion with a large archer retailer back East and was told that this year has not followed the trends set in the past couple of years with respect to the latest, greatest, most popular, and best selling bows on the market. What does everyone hear from your local archers and bowhunters as the best bow for the money, fastest, most accurate, etc? Please give me general geographic location and tell me what you think is the hottest selling bow in your area.
I am just amazed by the dominate number of Mathews bows I see at local 3D events. Not a majority, but a likely plurality. But perhaps the Mathews shooter is more likely to show up at a competitive event?
Don't know, but perhaps. All those PSEs, and Pearsons at Bass Pro, Gander, and the local shops must be going somewhere.
I bought a new Darton Cyclone last year, and a $65 XI this year. I'm set with hunting bows for a very long time.
Jim, up here in New England........BNowtech sems to be coming on strong............Hoyt is a perenniel seller............Martin bow shops have been lacking in recent years..........but with their quality,,,,,,,their customer service and their price points..........Martin sales are sure to rise up here...............and their rep up here is fantastic............give it a year.........Martin will compete with the best of them..............More Martins will be seen at the shoots next year!!!!!!!!!guaranteed!!!!!!!!
Here in Southern Idaho the Martins have a good showing due to your Martin boys Tim Malone and Jim Daniels winning most of the shoots. But Mathews and Hoyts are about equals in the amount of high end bows sold. By the way Tim just took a 361 7X7 Bull in early Sept. You'd better save a spot for a picture in the next Martin Catalog!
Seems like Mathews and to a lesser extent, Hoyt seem to dominate the hunting bow sales around here. The shops around here don't push Martins even though they are very competively priced. I am told that dealers love to sell Mathews because they can get bigger margins on their bows. I think Martin ought to belly up to the bar and spend the bucks to get a couple of the top ASA/IBO 3-D shooters on staff. It has worked for Mathews and Hoyt. When we showed up at the range with our Martins, most people had never even seen their current models. I also think Martin dealers are missing the boat by not stocking a target color Scepter. I have NEVER walked into a Martin dealer and seen one on the rack. People tend to buy what they can see and pickup. Here we have one of the best target bows ever and no one can get a look at them unless they see one in a tournament.
A friend of mine just bought a camo Altitude and he says the bow is incredibly accurate. He bought it off the rack at the local Martin dealer after it had sat on the rack for months with people buying Mathews bows as fast as they can get them in. No one had ever set one up or even had a clue how good this bow is. Must be very frustrating to know you have a great product and the world doesn't have a clue.

And tell me if I am wrong those were AUTORIZED Martin dealers that were not stocking Martins but pushing Mathews were'nt they??
That is the way it is around these parts... Pull up to the pro shop and see a big Martin ( and others) Banners and stickers in the windows AUTHORIZED Martin dealer... go in and not a Martin to be found ... Get told not that they do not stock them as there is no demand in these parts... and then told to buy an XYZ bow as it's what everybody is shooting ... of course its practiacally the only bow that this and other shops in the area are stocking!!
Again I ask how can a shop that has not had a Martin bow in the shop for 2 or 3 years... does not know the product line and could not tell a fuzion cam from a fury cam be an Authorized Martin dealer?? or any company for that fact???
I hate to use golf again but if the pro shop is an authorized dealer they stock it ... know about it... and have parts for it...
I'm not stating that shop owners can't have ther favorits and push whatever may have the highest profit margins... but come on ... If you were an authorized Ford dealer and had nothing on your lot besides Chevy's and Hondas for 3 years??
I am lucky...there are four pro-shops in my area and quite a few non-specialty shops. Mathews is probably the biggest seller but not by a wide margin. Alot of hunters around here are using Hoyt, PSE, Alpine Archery, Parker, NAAG and Bowtech to name a few. The Mathews bows are few dollars cheaper than Hoyt and Bowtech in my area.
In this part of Upstate NY, Hoyt and Parker are strong at one shop, Mathews & PSE at another. Overall, I'd say Mathews and Hoyt are the biggest sellers.
Parker is good about shipping promptly and replacing any problem parts/bows.
These Martins are a great bow..........More need to be out there.......I have four...........Cougar Elite with Fury X cams, Cougar 2000, Hunter recurve and Stick longbow...........now being busy in the shop........I had not picked up the bow in 2 weeks........yesterday.........I fired 5 shots with fingers.....from 20 yards......all wnt in the white of the five spot target........I put the bow down..........and am ready to hunt!!!!!!!
Martind are deadly bows but in some areas they are the sleeper!!!!!!!!!!!..........No big bucks for advertising..........just quiet accurate bows..from fast compounds to recurves and longbows!!!!!!!!! It seems to me that big Advertising bucks not bows sell the products!!!!!To bad I am selling my other bows........all MARTIN FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!..........personally I think it is the price mentallity.........if it is expensive........IT MUST BE GOOD!!!!!IF it is inexpensive.........how good must it be..........WHAT NONSENSE!!!!!!!!!!.........FOR THE SAME MONEY....as a cheap XYZ or a cheap..........ABC.........Martin will blow them away................and be more accurate and durable......I have been Martinized!!!!!!!!!!!!But more then that............I have ben mesmerized with their quality and workmanship at half the price of others!!!!!!!!!..............Waste your money paying for advertising........I will shoot Martin wher all THEIR money goes into making their bows.........not paying for 5 page ads in Magazines!!!!!!!!!!!1
In my local shop where I work and play...the prices are as follows
Mathews Conquest 2..........599
Legacy .........599
Q2......................579
Q2XL..................579
FX......................399
Hoyt Ultratec...................589
ProTec....................589
Cybertec.................589
All of these prices are everyday and include setup, 2 free checkups for maintenence and wear and tear. The economy isn't the greatest in this area and the prices we have already about takes it's toll. As far as dealer price is concerned, Bowtech and Hoyt cost more than Mathews to get in the door. I unload and set them up, I know... Bowtech's decision to add Winners Choice strings and cables no doubt is part of that pricing idea but their bow is worth every penny more because of it. Hoyt offers some great packages. Mathews is seen in many eyes as the great devil of archery. Not so. They produce great bows and their prices are even with the industry norm. All of the mainline archery companies produce quality equipment. Mathews spends a fortune(40 dollars per bow is the rumor) on the vast array of advertising that they do. They all do to some degree. Does it stop guys from buying bows? No.
At the first of this year........I was shooting another brand.......then I shot the Fury X........then the Cougar ..........then I tested them against other brands for web sites.............price point for price point.............The Martin is the best value for the dollar................I predict that next year with more exposure.......Martin bows are going to take off ..............price in months ahead is going to be an issue.............Martin bows are affordable and shoots with the bows that cost twice as much........get MARTINIZED.........get Martin.........I HAVE!!!!!!!!
In my area, the popularity of a bow seems to be directly correlated to the competency of the shop carrying and promoting them. The best shop in my area is a Mathews dealer and they promote them heavily. Consequently, Mathews appears to be far and away the most popular pro shop bow around here. The second best shop carries Bow Tech, and in just a short time they appear to have become the second most popular bow in this area. As for a mass market bow found in department stores, sporting goods stores, etc., I would guess that it's PSE with Martin coming in a close second.
SteveR,
What part of the country are you from? It helps to know where everyone is talking about. I appreciate everyone's input on this topic. In my home area, I would say that Mathews, Martin and Hoyt take the lions share of the business. There are quite a few Dartons and PSE'S sold close by, too, but in sheer numbers of bows, Martin is probably #1, with Hoyt following closely behind and Mathews third.
I'm from upstate NY, south of Buffalo. The area I'm referring to, probably only covers a 40 miles radius at best, so it's just a microcosm of the bow buying world.
Ever been to Creekside Archery in Forestville? They have a great archery shop, complete with an indoor DART system and indoor archery range. I love going there because they have a deer farm out back with a fair number of 140's and 150's running around where you can get fairly close to these beauties. Check it out sometime.
No I haven't been there, but it sounds great. That's about 50 miles from me. We're always looking for new places to go shoot, so I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the tip.
North-Eastern Alabama, in my area Mathews definately dominates by a fair margin, probably 40% of the bowhunters I come in contact with own Mathews. Then I would say Hoyt,PSE, and Jennings. Martin hasn't really caught on down here, least I don't see many around. I would say most Mathews guys have either an MQ1 or a Q2.
Martins are new for us at our shop........but people who buy them shot them well and need very little tuning(do not know why?)but man do they shoot!!!!! I can put a half decent package together abd sell it for 500.00.......less arrows and release.....You can not even buy a half decent Bowtech.........or Hoyt(one Hoyt) for the price of a decent Martin all decked out!!!!!!!Southern N H is a great spot for selling bows.......but most Mass people (in my opinion) want high end bows(must have good jobs),,,,,,,but the people who have bought Martins.......LOVE THEM and send in others!!!!!!.............I am trying to get others to be Martinized.....so now I am MUZZIFIED, MARTINIZED AND MYSTIFIED WHY OTHERS ARE NOT MONEY WISE AND BUY MARTIN TO BE MESMERIZED!!!!!!!!!!
