    Unhappy Charlie Kroll passed away.......

Charlie Kroll, Fred Bear's Best buddy and relative, passed away yesterday at his cabin on the Au Sable River in Grayling, Michigan

Charlie had shoveled snow and put out corn for the deer and birds.

He canceled a meeting with another old bowhunter claiming to be tired. He said he has finished the snow shoveling and the deer had already hit the corn.

He was sitting upright in a swing chair over looking the Au Sable River when the Good Lord called him last night

He had a new book out on Fred Bear and he was supposed to be signing this book for me this week.

His Son Chris Kroll was a avid young Bowhunter and sort of an adopted son of Fred Bear
Chris Kroll, Chuck's only child, died at age 17 tragically and his death broke Fred's heart

Chris was well known for a Super Mountain Goat he took with his bow in BC
at age 15 with a Bear recurve Bow

Charlie Kroll was an early Member/founder of the Pope & Young Club Maybe Even President several times and a old time bowhunter from the old school.

Much of the Fred Bear's legacy was stored in Chucks mind and heart

I was happy to serve Under Chris when he was Chairman of the Conservation Committee of the Pope & Young Club and I was a Committee member back in the mid 1970s. I helped raise $$$ grants for P & Y Projects

    Chuck will be missed.

Tonight Chuck sits around Small gleaming camp fire with Fred, Saxon Pope, Art Young, Howard Hill, Bob Swinehart, Art Laha, The Thompson Brothers, Chief Compton and they are talking about bowhunting and the future of bowhunting.....

RIP Charlie .... you were the best Old Buddy

All of us who live and love this life as archers owe a large debt of gratitude to the elders who shaped this sport.

I recommend this be moved up as a "Sticky" for a few days, so everyone will have the chance to hear about our loss, and then take a little time to say a prayer for the family and friends of a great man.

    A prayer for him

I'm "truly" sorry to hear of this loss to so many of us out there that looked up to this inspirational archer and hunter. He will be missed by many. Goodbye Charlie.
Doesn't matter anymore they're all good products.

Wind's right, but he'll just run, when we step out of these trees.
Trick to it, walk out on this side of your horse.
What if he see's our feet?

Darn shame. My Dad's getting up there and all his old friends are gone. Says he hopes heaven is something like hanging around a good camp fire back when your in your prime, laughing and talking with all your friends and relatives. I kind of hope so too.
