So what is going on with the rest of the team? These turkeys have been giving me hell the last two weeks in bama. I hunt a lot of big woods, and getting around with blind and bow in tow has really limited me. Hunting this weekend and most of next and headed up to Illinois for a week of bowhunting at the end of the month.

How is everyone else's season going?

Mine is not open yet, it opens this Wed. the 25th I have been doing some long range scouting and am going to set a blind out after this weekend hope to have one the first few days of the season, they are in the 0 acre woods across the road from me and they have been gobbling about every morning and they have a strut spot I am going to put the pop up blind close to .

I have gotten up at 4:15 for the last 3 mornings and hunted in one of 2 pop up blinds. I have had turkeys gobble at any noise they hear but havent paid a bit of attention to what calling I did. I have seen 3 toms one this morning gobbled a hundred times and finally came in the field I was on the edge of, and was coming towards me when a school bus started down the county line road and the turkey made a B-line back to the woods. I will go back out in the AM, I took the Wife out for a fish fry at the Legion about 18 miles from home and saw 5 turkeys coming back home.

I hear ya. It's been tough around here. Birds almost seem to be done breeding. There isn't even the 10-1 o'clock gobblers looking for a lonely hen. Frustrating to say the least.

Confession time...I chased them with my bow for 3 straight weeks (5 mornings a week for three straight weeks) and just couldn't get it done. Had a few close, just no cigar. Went and killed 2 more last week with my gun. I just had to get them killed! Just got up to Illinois and will be back with the old stick and string...just had to get that off my chest!

Birds just avoid me when I have a bow in hand! My 7 year old took his first this morning with a shotgun and my 12 year old took one with his shotgun this morning also.

So here are the last few stories from our illinois trip plus a little video...and I am ashamed to say...that I missed with my bow. Yep, though on a scale of 1 to 10, it was about a 9.5 on difficulty. 35 yard walking away at a diagonal shot...skimmed his back. Anyway, here is the link to the stories, I am too lazy to write them twice for the AT community...

Yeah in Kansas and struggling. Public ground with a bow late season = many frustrations.

Do it! We are already hopelessly behind in the contest...and I still love killing them with my 12. No shame in that at all!

Well TEAM, I gave it my best shot and came up empty this year, had some great hunts, if I had had a gun on every hunt I could have shot at least 7 long beards. I missed my first turkey this year ever with a bow, had some close enconters and some memorable hunts. Good luck to all still hunting and have a great deer season.

Tomorrow is the last day here in Iowa. Only action this morning so far has been 2 coyotes came into the decoys, only 1 left. #2 shouldn£ have left but my rangefinder battery went dead before I could get a reading.

Hope to get it done this evening.

    12' Season Wrap

    Well guys,

I am officially done. I killed the 70.75 inch bird with my bow on April 7th, and today I killed my second KS bird with the gun. Wouldn't you know it that I called in 4 birds today!!! The wind was gusting over 40, but the birds did not care at all. He is an older bird and kind of looks like a rio/eastern hybrid to me. 1 1/8 spurs, 10 1/2 inch beard, only 18 pounds 10 ounces. I think he had lost a little weight from a long breeding season. The birds have been really fired up lately, and I have been getting reports all around that the action has heated back up a bit

It was nice to be in the contest with you guys!! Good luck this fall

Well, I bagged a bird the first part of May with my bow. I was waiting to get out in the woods again, but it didn't happen. I will post it up later tonight or in the morning to the scoring thread.

Nope - just in time. That was the last bird scored and moved your team from 10th to 6th place!
