Did you see the top shot with atlatl?
Pretty good example there. No experience with them but good luck! Let us know how it turns out

I just checked PA. Game Commission website and Atlatl is Not Legal for hunting in Pa. I would still be interested in seeing pic's of you using one if you decide to get one.

I think they would be real tough to hunt with.

yea i will have to put pics up. but im gonna make one though. seems easy enough. i was reading an issue of bowhunting magazine and a guy in missouri or one of those states killed a deer last year with one. and it also said it was legal in pa. and no i did not see that topshot.

Use of one was legal in PA at one point. Maybe the game commission came to their senses and realized letting people hunt with a spear isn't a good idea.

The atlatl is NOT a legal weapon for hunting in PA. Only archery equipment authorized for hunting in PA is recurve, longbow, compound and crossbows using broadheads of cutting edge design(mechanical or fixed blade)

I tried one one time that used a regular length arrow and that thing was hard to hit a 4x4 block at from 10 yards and when hit, it barely stuck in the target with a broadhead on.

yea you need dart about 6 to 7 feet long. that short arrow was way to stiff. atlatls are the same as a bow when it comes to finding the right arrow or dart.

I attempted to make one out of bamboo. I used an antler tine for the "rest". I can't figure out the spears, so I'm buying some pre fab spears from Ebay. Try the Atlatl store on Ebay!!

I have a neighbor who makes them and is in an atlatl throwers competitive association. If you really are serious I might be able to hook you up with him via email or something. He's a very experienced dude and a wealth of knowledge on spears and atlatl.

well im not gonna get into competition. its a real bummer that its not legal in pa. kinda think it would be a waste of my time to make one and then practice a bunch just to not use it. unless i had my own land and then i probably would try

I have tried them before, very difficult to get used to but I got diecent accuracy out of it after a few day of playing around. The hardest part would be getting close enough to use one effectivly on a deer, and not spook it getting into the open to let em have it.

Check out some of the videos on you tube. There is one I remember of a kid taking a deer with one while his g-pa filmed. Very cool.

They are legal here in Missouri. I'd love to see one made and then make one myself!

They would have stayed legal in PA if some big dollar company put a scope on them, claimed you could kill at 80 yards without trying, and sold them at Cabelas for $600. Nothing ever goes backwards in the PA GC. Only forward with the help of $$$$$.

Found a blog that goes pretty through making a cheap one, and then a fancy one. I'm gonna have to try this.
