This isn't a 100% archery question but has to deal with it.

Can't decide on truck for hunting. Looking at a 07 4 door duramax with 46,000 miles on it for 29,000 or a 06 f150 4 door fx4 with 60,000 miles on it for 19,000. The extra 10,000 is the question, is it worth it. I plan on going out west for hunting eventually so my question is a duramax more comfortable for long trips or the ford. Has anyone ever taken one of these on a long trip ? Also pros and cons to each vehicle. Thanks in advance!

For that kinda money maybe you should buy new.
Do you need a 4 door crew cab?
Those prices seem high for those trucks to me.

I bought a '07 with everything on it including leather for $32k and it had 52000 miles on it and it has a 5.3L gas engine. I'm biased when I say I'd rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford. So I'd go with the Duramax.

They seem high for those trucks for me too, atleast in my area. For a rugged truck, and for travel... Dirty max all day long! I'd buy the Chevy.

The D max will last you a long long time. it will be a bit more to maintain.

For smoothness the Ford is going to win out. I am a big fan of the 5.3 and 6.0 gas engines from Chevy and have a 6.0 in my truck and it is wonderful!

Economy wise you will be about the same if not a little better with the Ford. Both of our D max averaged about 14.5 miles to to the gallon and were lerchy from start to stop. great power and we used ours to pull trailers. If your not towing the ford is better probably, here in Utah Diesel is some 50 cents higher than gas per gallon.

You need to consider the cost differential between diesel and regular gas. I have a Dodge 06 with cummins diesel. Where I live the cost of diesel is about 36 cents more. Also the duramax only makes sense if you tend to keep your vehicles longer than average. Finally you had better find another source because those prices are too high. Good luck.

You need to ask yourself...do i need the diesel? Do you tow alot, use for work? Or...a avg. guy that tows a few times a year, and lighter trailers at that. I strongly considered the diesel but ended up with the gasser and I tow ALOT, it's about all my rig gets used for(05 silverado 4 door). Boat gets pulled about 12K a year(18.5' glass), atv trailer about 4K. The gasser has held up well and pulls well. I looked at the maintenence costs of the diesel, the extra cost in fuel and gas won out pretty easily.

What really sucks is diesels used to get way better mileage than the gassers...now with the epa...not so much unless you pull half the exhaust, the cc and get a programmer and detune. Then they'll get great mileage...20 all day. Otherwise your talking 10-15mpg. My 5.3 gets that towing, gas is cheaper and maintenence is cheaper.

My bud just sold his diesel..why he even bought it in the first place?? He claimed he towes...he doesn't but maybe 10 times a year. After one year, a little maintenence and running around town getting poor mileage, he dumped it and bought a gasser. Other bud runs a const. company...he MUST HAVE diesel.

I've taken 3/4's diesels and 1/2 gassers on long trips...comfort is the same imho, slight nod to the chevy 1/2 gasser as being more comfortable. We just got back from a 14 hr. round trip. I pulled my boat with my 5.3..avg mpg...13.6. My bud with his duramax, pulling a "equal" boat got 14.4.

Okay most likely going to be a crew cab f150. I just the 4 door fords not that I need 4 doors. I just like the looks better. I was thinking the same as you guys. I don't tow enough to need a diesel just sorta to say I have one and I wanted to start making it a truck to put in truck pulls. Also, the maintenance is way higher on the diesel so I will most likely go with a gas.

Your going to enjoy the 4 doors/back seat...your from a cold weather state. The ability to put your cloths, or high end gear in the back seat to keep it "warm" and out of the freezing temps is nice. The ability to throw 4 people in comfortably on long trips, nice. My next rig will be a 4 door again.

Personally - I would spend 5K on a truck to hunt/fish with and do your running around with.

Spend 20K on a car that gets great gas mileage for you work and all other travels and be WAY futher a head.

I would get a car but I have a beater car for work and gets 31mpg that's paid off. I now just want a nice truck and I'm set. Also, I might add I want a truck I can trust on long trips. Next year I'm headed to Canada to hunt bear and fish so I need something reliable.

That's the exact reason I want a 4 door. I want the extra room and being able to throw 4 people there and not be squeezed in.

I would go with the D Max all day, well unless you can find a 7.3L Powerstroke, the 7.3 is bulletproof!

If you're not gonna be doing a LOT of towing... Then there's no point in getting a diesel...

I think I'm gonna get one of the new 6cyl turbo Ecoboost f150 crew cabs this fall... They're supposed to get great gas mileage & still have plenty of power!!!

I could get a 7.3 with 120,000 miles on it extended cab with a plow, 5" exhaust, and a chop for 7,000 but I'm not a ford guy.

I won't be doing much towing. That's why I was thinking the 4 door f150 but wanted some people's opinions on here. Anyone have pics of there f150's or d maxs?

    I loved it.
As I was admiring his he went to look at mine.
    I have a 2010 Tundra SR5 TRD CrewMax.
I do a little bit of towing and hauling...when I do its super heavy equipment and loads.
I have always been a Toyota guy...but...I may be looking at that Ford this time next year.

I would love to go with the duramax. I would take it then it wouldn't be stock. I'd have everything done to it, I have a list. I would get it ready to enter truck pulls and that means more money for maintence and to do it.
