    2013 PSE Drive--Brief Performance Review

These were the first 2013 PSE's to come in. I like to do a quick review for the crowd here. This is the new PSE Drive. Retails for $499. This is not a comparison review. Just some info on the Drive bow. The bow is very shock-free and quiet and shoots more like a $700 bow. Its draw cycle is slightly stiff but very smooth all the way through.

    ATA------30.5"
    Brace-----7.5"
    DC Cams, Drive Cam Hybrid
    318-326 IBO from PSE
    75% let-off
    4.6 lbs
    26"-31.5" draw adjustabilty

I had about 5 minutes in tuning the bow and setting up a rest. I set arrow nock level and the arrow straight down the center. Took me 2 shots to papertune.

Here are the bows specs that I shot:

    29"and measured 29" exactly
    60.5#
Just a d-loop on the string. I shot a 302 grain Beman Speed(my 3d arrow) and a 398 grain Easton Axis(my hunting arrow). Results below.

    302 grain arrow------322 fps
    398 grain arrow------284 fps

The Drive is a very capable hunting bow with a generous brace that has excellent speed. If you punch those numbers in to the backcountry calculator, I think you will find that PSE has rated this bow very conservatively. A fantastic bow for the money.

    Great speeds!

Having shot this bow, I can affirm it is a winner. Nice to see some actual real world speeds...thanks.

So, just for a performance comparison, if this bow was setup with a 30" draw it would have an ibo of 332 fps?
So, let's say it had a 6" bh it would have an ibo of almost 350 fps?

Yes, if it was a 30/70 it would probably come close to 335 fps.

How much "tuning" would you say you did before doing the speed tests?
The only reason i ask is because those are awesome speed numbers, and i know you are a great tuner but around here the pro shops idea of tuning is taking it out of the box and handing it to you. I basically just want to know what the chances are of taking this bow right out of the box and getting these numbers?
Also how does the valley and let off feel? Does it want to take off on you or is it easy to hold for extended periods of time?

60#, 29", 302 grains at 322 fps is amazing for that bow!!! Got to love how modest PSE is with their speed ratings!

Here is a list of bow speeds as tested by arrow trade magazine and all also at 60#, 29", 300 grain arrows...the Drive came out only 11 fps behind the Insanity CPX at those specs and the Insanity CPX IBO is 355!:

    Bear Anarchy: 305 fps

    Bowtech Insanity CPX: 333 fps

    Elite Answer: 310 fps

    Hoyt Vector 32: 316 fps

    Maitland Halo 34: 310 fps

    Martin Bengal Pro: 296 fps

    Mathews Helim: 316 fps

    Obsession Lethal Force: 314 fps

    Parker Python: 302 fps

    Prime Shift: 315 fps

Ross Crave DRT 31.5: 312 fps

    Strother Wrath: 301 fps
