pahunter read above quote. I never said PA had the longest archery season, I just said you get more tim in the woods than the other guys hunting in this state. And to ask for more time, just sounds selfish to me.

I sit here in 5C for every deer season with my bow. Not a gun hunting deer fan-no challenge for me.
I too would like to see the season extended another week into November. I also don't see the necessity to start antlerless season here in mid-September.
While I'm on my roll, my perfect, admittedly selfish, season would get rid of the early muzzleloader, get rid of the centerfire rifle day(s) upstate during archery, the one that's supposed to be for kids and seniors. Must have closed the casinos that Saturday; sounded like a warzone up in my area on that Saturday and they weren't inlines.
But overall, I'm happy with my hunting opportunities.

Try to look at things from the bright side. It has been a frustrating season for me as well. I have managed to harvest a nice doe and a small buck but they are the only 2 deer that I have had within range. Before I harvested my small buck, I went out and didn't see a single deer the 5 hunts before that. And when i was seeing deer it was only 1-2 deer and they were too far away. The bright side is there will be more deer for rifle season and most likely there will be more deer for next year. You can't have a great year every year and you can't make the season longer because the weather hasn't been great. You wouldn't be ok with it if the weather was amazing and they decided to cut the season short by a week or 2 now would you?

To telk you the truth I went out doe hunting after I got my buck and had two does walk 25 yards from me and I did not even draw my bow I did not want my season to be over just like being in the woods now had I not got my buck one would have been down I never see more than one or two deer a day some days I might see 5 together but never do I see sets of deer but may have been two days out that I did not see a deer so it's been a good season for me.

I'm not worried about more time, but I can say this was the worst season so far for me in YEARS regarding deer sightings. I have not seen a deer on stand on public ground since the first week. I've seen 11 deer and 33 turkeys total this season on public ground and all the deer sightings were the first week. I think I am going to become a turkey hunter instead of a deer hunter haha. I've seen a few other deer but that was on private land in Carnegie and Washington.

How many more bucks do we need to shoot in Pa? Oh wait, you don't care about the deer herd you care about yourself.

This makes sense to me. Good answer, Bob.
P.S. Doesn't this belong in the hunting forum?

When I retire to my mntn place I plan on doing just that. Would love to hunt NJ because it's close now, but I don't have any contacts there.

I do live close and work in upstate a lot. I also know some landowners up there. I haven't really asked any to hunt and I know two that have offered, but I just haven't taken them up on it.

Your missing the point. If you dont like that bowhunters have more time then rifle hunters then go to a rifle hunting forum and complain about it. I meant most diehard bowhunters come on this site to talk bowhunting and not complain about bowhunters.

I have not been seeing any deer for the past 2 weeks either. Funny when rifle season rolls around the guys I hunt with will blame not seeing many deer on the archers having so much opportunity and shooting all the deer before rifle season. Is it possible we just do not have nearly as many deer here in north east PA as we did 10 years ago? It wasn't that long ago 2 weeks were added to the archery season, we get plenty of opportunity timewise. I just I could get more shot opportunities in the time we are given.

    Pennsylvania Archery Season

My brother and three of our buddies killed bucks in first week..I have seen only 4 bucks so far..have only hunted evenings after work..worked every Saturday so far..can't pass up the overtime..I wish season was longer or give us Sundays..best part of season still to come if Sandy gets the heck out of here..all in all cant complain too much cause I chose to work the Saturdays instead of hunting. As long as my daughters get a chance at bucks during rifle season I will consider it a good year.. Good luck to u all!!

Starting the season later or having it run right up to the start of firearms season will not magically alter the weather. It's been warm this fall and nobody can control that.

I think our archery season is actually very long and generous. It would be nice if we had Sundays to hunt and the season ran up to firearms season but other than that, we have a lot of opportunity to hunt deer. Depending on where you live, you can start hunting.....

    - in mid-September for doe (WMUs 2B, 5C, 5D)
    - roll right into the 1.5 month regular archery season
    - keep hunting the two weeks prior to gun season for doe (WMUs 2B, 5C, 5D)
    - hunt the entire 2 week gun season
    - two weeks of closed seasons
    - hunt the post Christmas season up mid January for buck or doe
    - hunt to the end of January for buck or doe (WMUs 2B, 5C, 5D)

Now you do need to hunt in the right WMUs to take advantage of all this but if you do, that's 4 months of nearly uninterrupted deer hunting. If that's not enough, I don't know what else you want.

I agree it would be nice if the season ran up to rifle, but like I said my issue isn't with more time. I need to learn to scout the public ground I hunt better and all the time in the world won't help that. That's on me not the PGC for not extending our season haha.

I want to bowhunt the last three weeks of November in my home state. It's frustrating to quit just when things start cranking up..so yes, I am greedy. I wonder how many other states have no open deer season for the better part of November?

I couldn't agree with you more. I would even like to see rifle season down to about three days or gone altogether. There is way too much overlap to our archery season here in PA. We could have bigger deer here if every knucklehead in PA with a rifle wasn't gunning every legal deer they see.

Go before work, go after work, go on Staurdays. I hear plenty of complaining, but just how often do you go? If guys aren't making a concerted effort to get out during the week as well as the weekend, I don't really feel too bad for them.

What did you start hunting with? I haven't gun hunted in a few, but I surely won't begrudge my gun hunting brothers. I love going to camp as well.
