shot deer tonight. how long to wait.

I shot a button buck at 50yds with a slight quartering away angle. My arrow was covered in real dark blood and stomach matter. I am thinking that I may have also got some liver and far side lung depending on degree of quartering away. I did not even look for it tonight, didn't want to risk pushing it. How long do you think that deer would take to expire?

If theres no concern with yotes or other people on the property I would just go out in the morning. A dead deer tonight is a dead deer in the morning. With a gut/liver hit deer I would say 8 hours, better to be safe and just get him in the morning when you can see ALOT better. Take your bow just in case!

I would go in the morning. Bring a buddy to help track or have one on standby

I'd be out at first light with bow in hand. If you lose the trail, look near water.

The shot was 50yds I ranged the deer at 48 just before I shot. The sound of the impact was not the usual crack but more of a pop. It's been a horrible season so far is why I knowingly shot a button buck, plus it was my last day to bowhunt before rifle season.

I'm not one to judge. But that sounds like an ill advised shot. You were better off letting him pass and trying your luck with the fire stick then to sling a "hope and pray" shot.

Leaving a gut shot deer over night your prob going to have some bad meat.

Get up in the morning and go find your deer. Backstraps and eggs in the morning with some good juice and coffee to wash away the bad taste the hater posts leave in your mouth.

    Good luck!

I'd wait at least 8 hours. Liver shots will kill them either in sight or it will take several hours. Gut shots are almost always a long slow process.

Go get him the morning....best to give the time it needs to expire.....if you are confident at 50 yards don't worry about it. I've harvested deer at 53 yards and that was a heart heart. But I'm sure that had I posted it people would have had their opinions one way or another. I know that I shoot all the time out to 60 yards and I'm a competitive shooter so i had confidence and im sure you did too. . You only know the shot and situation so just do the best to recover your deer and do whatever you can. Best of luck.

if you have dark blood thats liver positively and quatering away shot you will have stomach matter as the arrow has to go through the stomach to get to the vitals.

You might be surprised, he is probably dead now. Liver shots normally expire within an hour if hit solid. I wait 3 hours on a liver, but when in doubt get out.

I bet he'll be not farther then 200 yards from where you shot him

    Good luck, subscribing

Considering that he shot this deer yesterday and we have not heard anything back from the OP it does not look good.
