Trophy Taker Smackdown Pro rest - problem

Hi, I need some help with my Trophy Taker SmackDown Pro rest (just brief info how this rest works - the rest "wants" to stay in fully upright position itself (some spring ?), but it's forced to lay down by activation cord. It means in "idle" position, the rest lies down just because activation cord is tight. As you pull bow back, the activation cord becomes loose and rest can go up. After shot, activation cord becomes tighten and rest must go down ...)

Till now, I had activation cord attached to lower limb. In this way, rest worked properly (or I think so) - the rest starts to rise during second half of draw back and it reaches its full position just last several inches before "wall".

Although this setup worked fine, I decided to change it from limb to cable. Why ? Activation cord is attached to lower limb by metal clamp, but Bear's owner manual restricts any accessory attached to the limb (it could cause a damage of limb ?). I'm little bit nervous about this statement, so I've decided to avoid clamp at all.

Thus, today I tried to move activation cord to cable (following rest manual instruction) - to lower, upward moving cable. It works, but I am afraid not well. Simply - rest goes up too fast. As I pull bow back, the activation cord becomes loose too quickly. Then rest starts to rise up almost immediately and it reaches its full position during _first_ several inches of pull back.

I am affraid, as it goes up so quickly, it'd lay down slowly …. and I have a possible clearance issue. I don't have a lipstick or powder just now to verify. I could shot only in my garage (10 yards) but all my shots are about 5-6" above then it used to be (nice grouping, but totally different place). And _maybe_ - sound is little bit different - more sharp, little bit "metallic" ?

Now, I am not sure what to do. I tried to change the place where activation cord is attached to the cable. No difference. Still too fast up and then probably too slow down. Even the smallest movement of cable causes activation cord looses too much - it means rest goes up too quickly, almost immediately after start pulling back

Does anybody have idea how to continue ?

p.s. I am sorry for my English, but I did my best to explain what's going on ….

It should be fine. The arrow won't leave the string till brace height. The rest is out of the way at brace height.

The rest should be coming up immediately and staying up throughout most of cycle. By design it drops out of the way at the very last moment and quickly. It drops a lot faster than what you think it does at the shot.

    Thank for reply.

Then let me ask one more question: Why all my "new"shots are higher then "old"ones (limb attached) ? Could it mean that previous rest fell too quickly and arrow droped little bit ?

Small addition - I just found lipstick. I put a lot of it on both "down" vanes and shot. Several times. Could not find any mark of lipstick on the rest. Then I put a small piece of white self-adhesive paper on the rest horn and try again and again ... only once I was able to find a very small mark on paper. Nothing more ...

Because you changed rests and most likely changed rest height/nocking point height....all you have to do is re-tune and re-sight it in.

I did not change rest. Rest is the same, only activation cord was moved from limb to cable. Only difference is - rest rises up sooner and tilts later.

My bad lol. I have selective reading I guess. I'm not sure why your POI would change unless you changed something else....

    No problem :-)
Only one idea I currently have is - arrow now sits on rest (in upright position) for longer time and thus keeps its level better. Before (limb driven), rest droped much sooner - it caused that arrow started to drop, too ... and its way was different - lower. True or false ? I really don't know ..

My guess would be what you said. The rest was dropping pretty fast before and you arrow stays on the rest longer now.... Sight it in again and go shooting......

Maybe it was just your bow but the older Smackdown and the Smackdown Pro that I have had both raised about 6in into the draw cycle and stayed up until the last 6in of the release. Both of mine were attached to the bottom limb.

Thank you for all your comments. I'm going to believe my rest works properly NOW (and not before as I thought) ... I am beginner, living quite far from any shop or expert and I'm really not sure where I got "knowledge" rest should go up only during last inches of draw cycle (which is probably wrong).

Besides, during my Internet research I've found one review, which reads :

The beauty of a limb-driven rest is that it doesn’t have to be timed! When you setup a cable-driven rest you have to carefully set the timing of the cord’s tension, and thus the timing of the launcher’s rising and falling. However, since a limb-driven rest needs tension to fall (not rise), the launcher is always going to fall at the right time, according to the bow’s limb movement. ”Timing” a limb-driven rest is as simple as ensuring that the rest’s cord is under tension while the bow is at rest, and that the launcher is completely down. That’s it.

SmackDown Pro is limb driven due to its construction, even it's conected to cable. So, it seems I have NOT problem. Yesterday evening I change sight settings and shot several dozens shots in my garage. It's only 10 yards, but it seems OK. I'll check again on Friday when I'll be able to shoot 25yards at indoor range.

Again - thanks a lot for your comments. You helped me much
