Just finished 10 Indoor range targets. Used untreated 2" x 12" x 12' board. $17.00 each. Have them cut each board into two lengths of 33" and two lengths of 36". The 33" boards are vertical and the 36 boards go on top and bottom of the 33" boards. That makes the 36" square.

    2013 DIY Range Target Contest

Got my targets filled and they stop my arrows just fine. So they seem to leave a arrow sized hole. My question is if I leave it will it heal on its own or do I simply rub the hole and help it seal back up?

Just let it go. The next shot that hits next to it will stretch the fabric back in place.

I made this on a hinge so I could just pull a pin and turn it around to shoot the other side
with very little effort. Instead of a door on the top I used a 2x8 and a 2x4 that was split and put
on yhe front and back to brace it so I can remove the 2x8 and have access to the whole
target for stuffing and repacking. I also built a small roof over it to help protect it and I added a 5 spot
    target mat

I can pull it out of the barn, shoot and wheel it back in for storage.
Lots of nice targets on here, but this guys fits my needs the best. I was going to build one that has a roof on it, and may just add one to his prototype. I like the moveability for grass cutting and winter, it being low to the ground incase someone misses (grass stops arrows fast, I live in town and it is always a concern, Safety first). I was also thinking about doors so when closed, they protected it from rain, when open, they also gave some defence from errant arrows. Overall, I like what this guy did. I don't get a vote, but he would have mine if I did.

So you have the animal target on one side and with the pull of a pin and spin you have the five spots. Cool.

Stuffed with clothes and carpet I have yet to have a tip poke out the back. I used house wrap for the face and it worked ok for a while but is getting pretty rough now.

    Stretch the chicken wire tight,
across the frame, and then staple down.

I am working on a design modification,
to address exactly what you are talking about.

I build these DIY targets for an indoor range,
and we have FITA shooters (Olympic recurve)
and they want the face of the target DEAD flat.

    I'll post up pics, soon.

All i did was stretch the face tight and staple it. I didn't use chickenwire. There is no need to "overstuff the box either. Its amazing how well old clothing stops an arrow.

Some of the FITA shooters are using $600 a dozen carbon arrows
(Easton X10s)...so they choose to not use my DIY targets.

Chicken wire is actually a very soft metal wire.
Chicken wire is not stainless steel piano wire.

    Goto the hardware store
and feel the chicken wire..."poultry netting".

This is very very thin gauge wire.

    Short answer, no.

    However,
many people who have NEVER tried the Lifetime target,
have never experienced the TWO FINGER pull out..(just thumb and index finger)

usually ask what you are asking.

    Take a cardboard box,
fill it with cotton towels, t-shirts, rags
    and step back 3 feet
    and shoot the cardboard box.

If the cardboard box is say 18-inches deep, front to back,
this will stop any bow, any draw weight
and will pull out easy peasy. TREMENDOUS stopping power.
