Does a triathlete count. My road bike is a Trek 2.1 and my tri bike is a Cervelo P2

Just bought a Specialized Crosstrail Elite Disc a few weeks ago to ride on the road and some rough park trails. Really happy with it, both on and off road. I was looking for something in between my Cannondale Quick and Kona Cinder Cone.

FELT Q620 - had it a few years and love it. I used to race on the track in Australia in the early 80s, wasn't any good really but I enjoyed the club scene and cameraderie.

Former MTBer decades ago, now roadie for over a decade.

All my bikes came from garage sales.

Used to have vintage Italian (Rossi) and French (Gitane) racing bikes. Since getting my fixie built in 2005 I hardly ride gears. For winter roller riding a couple of years ago found an 80s vintage Giant in mint -- I mean the little rubber things are still on the white wall tires -- for $10 at a yard sale. At 60cm it's a little big, yet for the price I can't complain.

I'm wanting to get into cycling for a little more of a FUN workout and am leaning more towards a mountain bike. On a budget after buying a house.. So I'm thinking nothing more than $500ish. Wanting a 29'er and been looking at Diamondback mostly. Anyone have any suggestions in that price range?

Bing3er, look at the Trek Mountain bikes. They start anywhere from mid 300s up to whatever any sane person would pay for their needs. I have the X-Caliber 7 and at 850 it is out of your price range but the lower models or x-caliber are close. I believe 550 is starting price.

I'm in Hays, the golf shop here just opened up a bike shop and they are a Giant dealer. I was thinking there used to be a good bike shop in Manhattan that carried Giant as well my friends used to go to?

The only bike shop in town that I know of is a rental shop.
