Exclamation Help again! Now it's a Racoon, and a Skunk

I have been trying to catch a racoon in a have a heart trap, so I can give it a swimming leson. One of my neighbors asked me to get rid of it, because isn't scared of people, and getting into trash. My problem is catching a stupid skunk, I caught the skunk at 10 last night, let it go, then I caught it again at around 12. Is there a way to keep that skunk out of the trap and only catch the Racoon, or if I drown the skunk will I wake up my neighbors witha stench? Thak you for the help! Any and all responses are appreciated.

I'm not a big fan of drowning animals, to me it's cruel. Plus how do you plan on getting close to the trap to throw it in the water without getting sprayed? I think your best bet to cut down on the stench is to kill the skunk quickly without exciting him, which usually involves a gun. I've shot a lot of skunks over the years and usually a head shot will dispatch them with little or no smell.

Good luck. Between skunks and oppossums it can be very tough to catch the coon. Can you haul the skunk out of town and let it loose?

your braver than I am. I guess you could load him up to take him somewhere else to drop him off. Just throw a blanket over the trap and put him in the back of your truck. At a last resort a .22 rimfire point blank to the head is fairly quiet and probably wouldn't wake the neighbors up. A few years ago I was out in the middle of the night shooting raccoons out of the tree next to my house because they kept trying to find ways into my attic. I asked my neighbors the next day if I woke them up and they had no clue what had went on, and I run through about 15rounds dispatching the family of raccoons.

What are you using for bait??

Use some Oreo cookies....if you catch the possum, just bag it and relocate out of town.

Just get a 50 gal trash can fill it with water from hose, and just toss it in. I know how you feel about not being able to shoot a pest in the city. Check some rules. I know I can shoot a pellet gun or use my bow as long as the projectile doesnt leave my property.

Gross store bought sticky buns. I can't believe the animals are even eating them!

You should just take your hunting jacket and throw it over the cage until you can get the skunk to
water. Then you can remove your jacket and get rid of the skunk. By now you should have enough
cover scent on your coat to last most of deer season.

I've had good luck using those giant marshmallows as bait. I've seen skunks pass on them but coons love them. Good luck!

If you want the skunk dead, leave it in the cage and by 10 in the morning it will be dead. They can't stand the sun!

Dry crunchy dog food! Seriously we used to get 8+ coons coming up on the deck to eat the dog and cat food at our old house. Do me a favor if this works and just drive the coon over to your mother in laws or something without the very painful death of drowning.

We would trap skunks and move them down the road. When they were trapped, we'd sneak behind them and drop a huge garbage bag (cut open along one of the seams - a tarp would work as well) over the trap (to protect us from being sprayed). We'd then put the bag covered trapped skunk in the back of the truck and move him ten/twenty miles down the road out in "deep" bfe. We probably trapped ten to fifteen a year during mating season. Never once got sprayed.
I change what bow I shoot about as often as I change my putter (that's pretty often).

Get a raccoon specific trap....since it's clear your gonna terminate the nuisance rather than relocate it. A simple club to the head by some means would be much quicker then drowning. I personally am not a fan of trapping animals tho, especially if I'm not targeting them as a food source or better use.

I would he to disagree Have caught dozens skunks cages and foot holds and 95% spray with head shot or a heart only way I got to not spray is cover cage and drop in river . Not Supose to shoot skunk in spinal cord or brain bc they are one on the big rabbies carriers and that it could go air born and have to leave sit day or 2 to be safe if it was infected

Relocate the skunk. A raccoon can do 10k in damage to your attic in a short amount of time they dont last if I see them around my house. The ones in the woods eat a lot of the corn pile but I leave them be as they arent destroying my house.
