How many of you shot a deer over 150?

I wonder how many have been to an outfitter and didnt shoot anything. Id like to hear the ratios and how big a chance people take when using an outfitter.

I've been to several outfitters, and have never seen a better deer than I would see at home (in PA). I go with my family, and it's more for the family time. Most of the time, I let everything walk. Last time though, my cousin shot a dandy, probably a lifetime deer for him, and there were pigs around, but I never saw one, just heard them in the swampier areas nearby. I would have shot every one for the smoker at home. I was more interested in wild pork than the deer.

OP - I have shot a couple bucks while at an outfitter - one being over 150, but I've seen some really good deer.

I volunteered my time with an outfitter for one fall. I've seen an aweful lot of 125" deer shot by guys who have never seen a buck that big - can't blame them. I've seen a few really good deer shot at outfitters - a couple in the 170"'s, a 180" and a few in the 150's and a bunch between 125" and 150".

I would say about 25% of the guys I have been in camp with killed a buck. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I have an outfitter who is a good friend of mine and his success rate is much higher than that.

The absolute greatest factor involved in a guys success is weather. The outfitter can't control the weather. The biggest thing to remember is that just because your hunting with an outfitter does not guarantee you a deer. That's a huge misnomer. A good outfitter guarantees you a place to stay, sometimes meals, good stands in productive areas....that's it. You still have to have a positive attitude and willing to hunt hard every day your there.

Hunting with an outfitter is suppose to be fun. I went on a few hunts just to be with friends and see some different timber. I've met some outstanding people and had some really good times - that was the most important thing for me. If your only reason to hunt with an outfitter is to shoot a 150" deer, don't go....I would say your going to be disappointed many more times than not.

Heck, I've hunted my favorite tracks where I live for weeks straight and often think if I was outfitting, guys would think I'm nuts. Hunt hard for days and weeks and never see a shooter, then the next day the wife and I kill 2 great deer just hours apart. Go figure. That's how it is with anybody on any piece of ground, outfitted or not.

did not make the 150" mark, but I had a great time being around some great guys and it was a fun relaxing time.

I have been on several hunts, but on 2 trips I came home empty handed. One is Texas I did not see anything that was big enough (for the outfitter) and in Kansas one year I did not see a buck. In fact over 4 days all I saw was 2 nannies.

If your looking into a guided hunt, do your homework. Some guys claim to be guides, but don't have a clue.

Drove to Saskatchewan and saw 5 deer. 2 yearlings 1 doe and two small 8s. Shot the second eight. Prob in the 120s. Buddy shot a doe for the meat and other buddy got 0ed. Was a fun time though. We all shot a bunch of glasses though

You can do more with a kind word and a gun than with just a kind word.

I'm 1 for 7 on outfitted hunts, far from shooting fish in a barrel like some guys claim. I've seen good animals on just about every hunt, connecting with them is a different story

I've been on a dozen outfitted hunts. My success rate is 90%. That's not killing just bucks, I shoot does too on hunts because I eat a lot of venison. On bucks it's 25%. You go for the good time. The chance to kill a good buck is what gets you there, but it shouldn't be what determines a good trip. Some outfitters work hard for you, and you still don't see anything. Some dump you out and you get lucky. It's rolling dice.

been on 4 guided hunts, killed bucks on 3 out of the 4. biggest was about a 140, but i've seen several bigger bucks that i just couldn't get a shot at. i go for the fun in camp and the chance to shoot something bigger than what i'd likely see here at home. number wise i always see a lot more deer out in the midwest than i do here.. my first guided hunt in mo, i saw about 20 deer on my first morning. never seen that many here on a single sit. you're lucky if you see one or two on a single hunt. i've had entire seasons where i didn't see 20 deer total nevermind one morning hunt!

I have shot 3 over 150 at an outfitter. All are not created equal. Do your homework.

There's a big difference between and outfitter and a guide.
