I have a buddy that is wanting to trade me a his ten point stealth XLT package for my Tactical Tikka T3 308. He offered the crossbow and $700 cash for my gun. Not real sure if this is a good deal because I know nothing about crossbows. I do know his package new was around $1200. My gun new was around $1500. I'm struggling with decision because the gun will shoot 1000 yds and crossbow maybe 80? Opinions? Thanks.
My answer would be it depends. It sounds like with 700 in cash and the xbow you would be close to the value of the Tikka. So if you were really wanting a crossbow and don't use the rifle much and did not have money you wanted to put out on a crossbow package right now it might be a win win.
I have the Tikka t3 standard in 308 with a Ziess conquest scope and it is my best ever deer rifle. So I might have a hard time giving up the gun though.
Right now the crossbow plus the $700 for your Tika doesn't sound like too bad of a trade to me. However, I agree with the loss of value. I have a Stealth XLT and love the bow, but it will lose way more value than a rifle will.
Value wise a fair trade at this point in time. Down the road, the bow will be worth little, the gun will still be worth a lot. I would not trade a gun for a bow.
Nobody pays top dollar for a gun either. Just try to trade one in. A auction is different guns go high. If you dont need the gun trade. Just go to a gun-archery shop and try to trade and you will see my point. You wont get 700 cash!!!! My point is someone says sell your gun, so try to sell it. See if you get 1500 out of it. Then go buy a new Stealth. Will bet anything you want the offer he gave you will be by far the best deal.
Keep the Tikka ... It's not an unfair proposal; but the rifle is forever. The bow is "current" for about 3 years. If you owned an 03 Springfield you'd still be killing deer at 1,000 yards over a hundred years later. You want a crossbow, just save up and buy one.
You don't buy a crossbow as an investment. You buy one to have fun and to kill critters. A quick search on GunBroker shows I can get a new Tikka Tactical 308 for $1300. $1300 - $700 cash leaves $600 for the Stealth. If you want a crossbow, seems like a good deal to me.
All depends if he wants a crossbow. My self the gun stays and just buy a crossbow. But some buy and sell and buy and sell. Some buy to hunt then sell and buy again the next year.
it depends on what you will use and enjoy the most. Forget about investment part. If the gun is nothing more the a safe queen heck, as so many are.... i would do it.... and i have done it few times, But i would sell the gun out rite and get a new bow.
