I have been out of Archery for nearly 20 years...I quit due to a severe sholder injury. Now days the sholder is in better shape. However the draw weight of hunting bows are not something I plan to get back into. Part of archery when I was a hunter was the competition of shooting 3d and target. I always enjoyed that.
Now I am concidering a Hoyt Podium compond bow as my next bow.
In the target compond world, what draw wieght do most adults shoot? I find I can draw a 50lbs with no issues. I know a typical tournament I would draw 150 times. So 50lbs would be do-able to start and progressing to 60lbs as strength builds. Would a 50-60# bow be good for adult mens target shooting? Also I have a 31" draw length. My budget is 2.5k for Bow and accessories. This doesn't count arrows and release.
Also I know allot of different items are typically used and would be gratful for advice on:
Site:
Rest:
Stabilizers:
I will worry about a release and carbo arrows once I get the bow and the above.
FWIW, my last bow was a Hoyt Enticer carbonite if anyone knows what that was.
Any suggestions on the accessories and wieght settings are appreciated.
I'm a 3d shooter seems most guys are shooting around 55-60 lbs trying to make speed for the class there shooting.sights are gonna depend on what class your wanting to shoot either fixed pins or adjustable..fixed pins axcel armourtech is a good sight.for a single pin cbe.axcel and shrewd all make good sights and Scopes. As for a rest lizard tongues are always a staple but limbdrivers and qad have a big following.stabilizers there are bunch of good ones out there again the class will determine the length but bee stinger.shrewd.among others are all good bars
If you are getting back into it and have a bum shoulder and are willing to put down the cash on a podium there are some other bows you might want to consider also. Don't get me wrong the podium is a GREAT bow, I shoot a 37 with spirals and love it... but the spirals can be a harsh came. You might want to look at an elite victory or TRG, much smoother draws, just not the speed.
Sight I would go with an axcel, very well made. Scope you dont need anything fancy, I shoot old Secialty Archery Super scopes, I like the large bubble, get lenses at a decent price from Brians Custom lense, work great
Rest I shoot a trophy taker SS pro, you can get them at a decent price in classifieds, nothing to fancy but hold a launcher solid
Stabilizer I love my Spiders, they are based in Oregon, when you call them you talk to the owner, they look great and hold great, they have a new side bar mount that is awesome.
Good luck getting back into the sport, remember it is about having fun.
50 is fine if money is no issue podium is a good bow but you can accessorize a used vantage elite ready to go for the same price as bare bow and be able to shoot just as good. Ha,mskea resting the last rest you will ever need it can be run in any configuration you can imagine drop away Liz young pull up pull down......... I will never buy any other . If you are looking for an open class sight achieve is rock solid reliable and great customer support. Pricey but again last sight you will buy. Stabs are a personal thing there are lots of good stabs at reasonable prices see spyder Bernie's. I shoot fuse blades but they are the most expensive of the bunch and have their own challenges in high wind although shooting in high gusty conditions is always a crap shoot. Hope that helps. Btw I shoot a 50 lb procomp serves me very well after all it's the Indian not the bow. I like the rigidity of a shoot through some folks hate them to each his own. I think it is the physicist in me.
With a 31 inch draw 50-60 is plenty for anything/everything. I don't know but would guess that is the most popular range in adult male target events. With that draw you can shoot harder/faster than many guys including myself can at 70 with the same bow. I would also second the recommendation that although your possible choice is a good one, do not get sold on one bow without trying others, some bows will draw at 60 but feel closer to 70 in another bow (if that makes sense) due to the draw cycle,. I shoot both limbdrivers and a blade, but I will let those with more experience provide you better insight on sights/stabs.
