This is a new version of a previous post. The original post was getting long and I had made several mistakes in the URL links which made it confusing. So, I have rebuilt the original post with no mistakes (and hopefully no more confusion). To date, over 315 people from around the world have logged on and downloaded this database. That is AWESOME!!
Originally posted on July 31, 2006: As promised, I have completed the Production version of my Deer Observation and Harvest Database, and it is now ready for download. The cost to you is nothing. That's right it's absolutely FREE. I hope you enjoy it. I know I sure have had fun building it. Here's the general overview from my original post where I introduced its demo version earlier this month... I have been working on this database for over 5 years now. I think I have finally got it dialed in good enough to share it with everyone here. I would love for you to download it and begin using it as your hunting and herd management tool. It will require your PC to be setup a certain way though. Here's the system requirements: 1.) IBM PC only - It will not work on a Mac (unless you can run Microsoft Office on your Mac). 2.) Windows XP operating system is preferred. However, it should work on 95, 2K, and Millennium. 3.) It's a Microsoft Access database, so it will also require you to have Microsoft Office 2000, 2002 or 2003 loaded to your PC. I have created separate versions for MS Access 2000 and MS Access 2002/2003, so you just have to make sure you download the correct one. 4.) It's a large download (16+ MB), so a broadband connection is suggested. A dial-up connection will work just fine, it’ll just take a while longer. The database allows you to capture both observation and harvest data by hunting season (you can set your own hunting season dates). It is primarily geared toward the person who hunts the same place(s) all the time. A private land owner or lessee is the primary target audience. But, you don't have to own the property, as long as you just hunt the same location(s) all the time. In order for this database to work to its fullest capacity, you have to be very diligent and accurate with your data collection and entry. It will require you to take detailed field notes each time you're in the woods so you can record them as soon as you get back to camp. This is all accomplished on a single data entry screen with drop down boxes and automated one-key selections. It also has a Stand Location database where you can capture detailed data on each of your hunting stands. And as part of the stand database, it also has a Treestand Locator feature. In this feature you can enter the current wind direction and the program will return back the best stand choices for that wind. There are also a dozen or more charts, graphs, reports, etc. It will also calculate deer herd population dynamics based on your entered data. Plus a whole bunch more. You'll just have to download it and check it out. Here are just a few screen shots from the database... Click on the thumbnails to enlarge the pictures... I have loaded it to my FTP server, so all you have to do is click on one of the links below and then click on the "Save" button when the download dialog box opens up. To download a zip file containing the Access 2000 Production version of the database plus a detailed 10 page PDF instruction manual click below --> Access 2000 Production Database + Instructions To download the Access 2000 Demo version with 4 years of real data included click below --> Access 2000 Demo Database To download a zip file containing the Access 2002/2003 Production version of the database plus a detailed 10 page PDF instruction manual click below --> Access 2002/2003 Production Database + Instruction Manual To download the Access 2002/2003 Demo version with 4 years of real data included click below --> Access 2002/2003 Demo Database To download the 10 page PDF instruction manual only --> Instruction Manual Only Please feel free to holler or PM me with any questions or suggestions. I really hope you enjoy the database.

Because a few of you have had corruption problems when downloading the zip files, please try one of the new links below (depending on what version you need). The links below are for the Production databases only and are not zipped. If you still need the instruction manual, you'll have to download that PDF document separately (link is above).
Here are the new links... Access 2000 Production Version Only Access 2002/2003 Production Version Only Thanks, Mike

When you use any of the links above, make sure you click on the "Save" button on the File Download dialog box that pops up. You may save the files anywhere on your computer that you wish.
Thanks, Mike

One other thing...
If you had an issue with loading the program and have not heard back from me via PM, please let me know. At this point, I believe I have answered everyone's questions.
Good luck this fall, Mike

Couple of options...
Quote:
If you want to download it to play around with it, I would recommend you download one of my Demo versions (again, depends on what version of Microsoft Access you have). They contain 4 years of real observation and harvest data which will enable you to see what is possible once you really start accruing some data. However, that said, if you don't want to mess with having to download a separate version just to play around with, you can easily remove data from the Production database by using the Raw Data Editor utility which is located on the Maintain Databases sub-menu screen.

I'm guessing if it isn't being immediately recognized by Windows, you probably don't have Access installed. The Microsoft Access icon is a purple key...

Great job Mike! I downloaded the program and it works great. I do have a question though. How do I shrink the program to fit my screen. Parts on the program are only 1/2/ visible. I have tried to drag the sides in , but that does'nt work. Any ideas. Thanks.

Try to grab the bottom righ-hand corner and shrink it up. If you can't get to the bottom righ-hand corner because it's off the screen, do the following:
1.) Find your start menu bar on the bottom of your screen. On it, there will be a long rectangle box which represents the Deer Observation Database. 2.) Right-click on that box. This will bring up an options menu. Click on "Move". 3.) Use your arrow keys on your keyboard to move the application around on your desktop until you can find that bottom right-hand corner. 4.) Now, drag it smaller and re-center it in your desktop. Let me know if you have any other problems.

Tried what you said and I can make it smaller in the small size window. I really can't change much , since the right side is almost hidden from view no matter what I do . I can only see about 1/4 inch of the right side table of contents , no matter what I try . The right side is almost hidden in maximize or minimize of the window.
