Big Agnes SL-1 is getting the rave reviews from folks on the backpacking hunting sites like 24hourcampfire and jesseshunting. It is under 3 pounds I believe.

MSR make a compact 1 man tent at or below 3#. REI also makes several 1 man models under 100 bucks that weigh in at or under 3#. If you are near and REI, they have tons of them you can look at and they will set them up for you.

If you want the lightest thing possible, why dont you go with one of those tarp shelters, a bivy or one of those hammock tent things.

I have one of the Cabela's XPG Ultralight 1 person tents. Very spacious, plenty of room for my backpack at my feet. Weighs about 4 pounds. I bought a footprint for it too so I don't damage it. I have not taken it into super cold weather yet, but it seems to be a good shelter. Assembles really quickly, maybe 5 minutes or so to set it up, no reason to rush it and tear it. It comes with a neat little loft thing to put your wallet and a flashlight, and other small essential gear above your head for quick access or whatever. I have had mine for probably 3 years now, and still in great condition.

I love my eureka timberline. it is VERY easy to put together. Its no big deal to unstrap it from your pack and set it up in the dark or in the wind. Mine is more than 30 years and I wouldn't trade it for anything new. oh, and you can buy a vestibule to add to the front if you need some space for your pack, or to drop off your muddy boots. My parent thru hiked the Appalachian trail with theirs.

Check out the Sierra Designs clip flashlight. I have the 2 person tent and it is great! Bang for your buck these are some of the best tents in this class.
