Being left handed, I usually have to buy a bow to actually evaluate it. Luckily, my bow shop, Archery in the Wild, has a great consignment program and does enough volume to sell my bows after a I get a chance to put a few thousand arrows through them. So far this year, I shot the Bowtech 82nd, the Bowtech 101st, and the Mathews DXT. I have a Drenalin LD waiting to get built, but my G5 rest and the Spott Hogg Hunter haven't come in yet.
82nd Airborne - Incredibly fast. Real world it was throwing a 429gr. arrow at 304fps after I put a Archery in Wild string on it, 299fps before I put on their string. I was pulling 29" at 70lbs. This is the only bow I have ever shot that actually has enough power to support seven pins with dead nuts accuracy even with 10-15mph winds. You can really shoot this bow out to 80 yards or more. I was shooting six arrow 10" groups at 80 yards after 1,500 arrows. This bow is harsh. Drawing the 82nd is harsh. Drawing down is scary. Even after 3,000 arrows, I didn't feel "natural" with this bow. I sold it.
Mathews DXT - Like butter, fast enough, and dead nuts accurate to 60 yds with 10-15mph winds. 7-8" groups of six arrows at 60 yds and a lot of stripped fletchings at 40yds. Shot my 429gr arrow at 284fps with the Archery in the Wild string(29" at 70lbs). This is my favorite bow ever. Not quite as fast or as accurate the my 101st, but it is so quiet, so smooth, so light, and so small. Shots that would be impossible with a longer axle to axle bow are a cinch with the DXT. Perfect for blind hunting, standing hunting, or stalking through dense, dark woods. This is the bow I am carrying for elk season.
Bowtech 101st Airborne - Smoother than the 82nd, as quiet as the DXT, and a smidgen more accurate than the DXT. I haven't chrono'd this bow. I shot 6" groups at 60yds. I like this bow, but it seems too mechanical on the draw when I compare it to the buttery smooth draw of the DXT. I have never jumped an arrow during the draw on the DXT, but it happens about every 80th arrow for me with the 101st.
I'll post my Drenalin LD eval as soon as it is built.
All bows were built with trophy taker fall away rests and Spott Hogg Right On Sights.
