Suggestions for deer feed that's cheaper than corn?
Does anyone have any recommendations or experience feeding deer with something cheaper than corn that draws them in just as well?
We've got a few deer feeders on a property in Ohio and we've used corn in the past but now corn has doubled in cost in the last year. It went from $4.20 + tax to $8.10 + tax in my area.
We've got some small food plots but I'm looking specifically for something I can put in these feeders. Soybeans? Oats? Feed pellets?
Thanks for insight!

Its probably all going to be about the same price, oats are actually more.
Duck or Bleed.

Has anyone ever tried cotton seed mill. I know alot of farmers that feed it to cattle but I dont think I have ever heard of anyone put it out for deer.

How about just fertilizing the natural vegetation? That's pretty cheap and effective
Pick a spot, a small spot!

My dad has started buying deer chow. It looks like dog food and has a water shed on it to keep it decent in a boradcast feeder. He says it is cheaper than corn.

Acorns. Just go out and gather all that falls or let them be and place a stand there.

I thought cotton seed will eventually make the deer sterile. I could be wrong...

wal mart here is 6.50 a bag for corn. rice bran is cheap, same as buck grub but lots cheaper. beans are expensive to, hard to get sometimes, works better i think for bucks.

Corn around western MD is going for around $18.00 for 100 lbs. at the feed stores. 40 lbs. at Wal-Mart is almost $9.00. Insanity!

Plant Food Plots
Check out this website for a comparative cost analysis of feeding deer with food plots versus feeders.
This is good stuff.
